Not too much really needs to be done, someone to help find updates and people to help approve reviews for manga chapters. It does take time some as I have to spend and hour or two on it every other day.
I didn't have easy access to the internet at that time (every time university breaks up for holidays, I go home to my folks where its very hard for me to get on the internet for more than an hour a day), which is why I didn't reply to the thread.

Although I can use IRC (at a very basic level though, about all I can do is talk to people), most of the manga I read I get updates from the scanners site via http.

Above is a image of my manga folder (it needs a bit of organizing though), I've blacked out the series that ST currently doesn't host.

The series crossed out in red are dead projects (the groups supposed to be translating them have either dropped the project or dissapeared).

The series circled in blue are the series I download from ST (since I don't know how to DL via IRC, and oishii's site is down).

Series circled in green are the series I can download via http direct from the scanlator sites. I'm also in a position to download Naruto scans from http://www.narutobuzz.com/manga.php, although I don't know if these scans are the latest or if ST is uptodate with the latest scasns since I don't download/read naruto anymore.

You may notice however, that most of the series that are circled in green are slow release.
AMG is supposed to be released monthly, but rarely is. (its their fault for turning me down when I applied as an editor)
    FMA is released monthly.
Love junkies hasn't had a release in a while.
Maka-Maka seems to be released bi-monthly (judging by the gap between the last two releases). (latest chapter was released last Wednesday (15th))
Mieru hito is still listed as being active, but there haven't been any new releases since August. (BTW, this series is currently released upto ch25, ST only has upto ch16)
Pastel seems to take a long time to release (although the latest chapter was released yesterday).

Of course if you can teach me where to find and download manga updates via IRC, then I could potentially take on some more series. You would also need to show me how to upload files, and also how to process chapter reviews (including approval criteria).

Just so you know, ST is easily one of my biggest time sinks, I could quite easily spend about an hour a day working on updates (assuming I can get to grips with the process).

There are some missing chapters that I need to get up. If you want to help with uploading, how much can you do? Is this only temporary?

It's real easy to download on IRC. I can give you the exact commands that you need.

Providing its not too difficult (or I can atleast learn it fairly easily) and I can get at my computer, I should be able to put in about 10 hours a week, maybe more if I don't have any uni projects that are due. but thats because I'm currently unemployed, that number might go down if I find a job, but not by much.

I'd like to start with just the chapter reviews first (you'll need to teach me what to do). And if you could give me a quick guide as to how I DL from IRC (and from where), I'll experiment with it a bit and if I can do it (and I don't see why not), then I'll get back to you with a list of series I can help upload(you'll also need to teach me how to upload, but that can come after I've figured out IRC).

    EDIT:

No, providing nothing comes up that prevents me from putting in the hours, then I should be able to do this permenantly, if I learn how to do it.
Excluding times when I am unable to get easy internet access.

I'll give you the same advice I give everyone else who needs IRC help: #lurk. It has everything - including most, if not all, of the series on this site. I actually haven't noticed most of the new series on StopTazmo (like... within the past few months?) because of the amazing thing of #lurk.

    On that topic...

How do I get onto lurk (the only places I know of are #HS and #bashforum both on rizon)? Is it also on rizon, and how do I download from it?

#lurk is on irchighway - if you open a new server window, type /server irc.irchighway.net and then... you're there. ^_^ You have to register to get onto the #lurk channel, though - and gotlurk.net is where the packlists are. Just copy the trigger they give you (push the button) and paste into the channel and it downloads. I'm really nervous about downloading from IRC most of the time - I don't like fservs - but #lurk is so easy that I wonder why people don't use it more. Just... the conversations are... unusual.

I check Manga-Updates compulsively (ie: every thirty minutes on some nights) so I'd love to help if I can compile a list of which series need to be updated and such - if it'd help.

    OHMYGODWEHAVENANAKI. *hyperventilates*

    This needs a thread.

I just figured it out (I think, if I need any help I'll ask later), thanks.

How often are the bots updated (how often do I have to check the list, and which list do I check)?

@Kane (and DE if she wants to help): How do you check for updates, do you just check the lists, or do you have another method?

And yeah, this does need a thread, Kane just revised the rules and already we've broken them. lol

I usually look to see when Manga-Updates.... updates - it's pretty often - and I think #lurk updates its bots a few times a day (not a lot, but considering StopTazmo does? used to? update every two days... it's enough). If M-U has it and it isn't adult (hentai, yaoi, yuri), chances are that #lurk will have it by the end of the day. They just got a new New Releases bot, but usually WandyPot is the new release one that has all series....

Well... no, technically we're still on topic. The issue was originally that Death Note needs to be updated and the problem is that ST is understaffed, which is the current topic of discussion. =P

I was gonna ask if you had to check each series individually, but I just found the releases page. http://www.mangaupdates.com/releases.html

BTW, I'm using mIRC, and its installed on my C drive, but My Documents is on my E drive, is there a way to change the folder that IRC downloads to without having to manually select a location each time?

Huh... I've never tried that. Usually, it just opens for me, so I can extract to whatever folder I want and then delete the original in the mIRC folder...

On topic, according to the people in the Death Note forum, the extra parts HAVE been scanned (or so it seems, since people seem to know about previously unknown things). Are omake chapters usually uploaded to ST...?
