People just can't read anymore.

Sorry to bump down your post, Jyuu... but there's a bit of an issue with the site now.

Has anyone noticed that there are few reports of missing chapters in Help nowadays? The posters have all been flocking to sections like Misc. Series and Download Requests with reports of "I can't find Chapter X of Series Y because it isn't on StopTazmo; can someone give me a link to it?". Not only am I concerned that these people clearly don't care about other people who might have that problem - they just want it for themselves - they can't even read to find the right section - which would be Help - to post the complaint in.

I posted this in Feedback because as the mod of Download Requests and an active poster in Misc. Series, I'm frustrated and need to ask this: What will it take to get people to think of the needs of the site and post in the right section? For that matter, why AREN'T people even looking at the Help Section first of all? All that happens is that people get flamed, and then they whine about it, use excuses, and then either find the right section, or disappear.

I'm really sorry for this long rant. I know reading has always been a problem, but I don't ever remember it being this bad. What do you think is the reason that people aren't going to Help and instead are going wherever they damn well please?

I think it is because on other forums people link to this website. They see all the free manga register and leech off of us until there is a problem. After that they whine and bitch about it anywhere becasue all they care about is themselves not this community.

You're still better than me. I saw the thread created by that guy who couldn't download his Negima and flamed him right away. Perhaps we should put up something about using proper english.

Let me make a suggestion how to deal with it:
1) To make all mirrors "download only members". So if you got banned you can't download anymore. That will make members more careful. ( i don't know if it is technically possible though. Sorry if i suggested something stupid)
2) Remake General rules
at least by adding links to section rules. People just read this, think like "O, i can post what i want everywhere" and don't pay attention to sectio rules. Which creates chaos
And to meke it clear that each section has it's own rules which must be followed as well.

I strongly second reinard-fox's second suggestion. Up front, it says there's these five rules, and when new people mess up because they were given the wrong information, they get nastily flamed for it. That doesn't exactly help build community or loyalty. It's all very well to complain that they should have read the section rules -- but the up-front rules don't mention those and even imply there aren't any.

Psuedo, their is no excuse for not thinking. Those are "Global" rules that were listed. It stands to reason that, since each section is different, they all have different rules. The rules are stickied, and right out there for anyone to read. Not using common sense is not an excuse for not following the rules.

Though I support adding links, that doesn't mean I think the abscence of such is an excuse for others, merely that we have to simplify things more than necessary for those "special" individuals.

People who are banned can't download from the site, if I remember correctly. I would ban more except that I already have a reputation as being more than a little mean what with flames and all. If it'll solve things - or help - then I'll just go back to giving long, long bans. Unfortunately, ban-dodging is allowed and IP bans are only given out in very serious situations. Also, I hesitate to ban any problem people who aren't in my section - so the ones in Misc. Series are just left to run free (from me, that is).

It isn't just a matter of the rules, though. I'm not going to add "Missing Chapters go in Help Section" just because people aren't considerate enough to ask there. This isn't just a matter of the rules, this is a matter of attitudes that are causing problems because people don't feel like reading enough to follow general procedure.
