Default Idea: Manga Series => new names?

I looked through the first and second page and didn't find anything close to the subject (unless I could have posted it in the "request manga" stickie... ).

As most probably have noticed there are 6-7 manga subforums available, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Black Cat etc. And I've always wondered how you ever decided on which mangas would get their own subforum...

Anyway seeing as how the activity in the Black Cat forum might be declining due to the manga being finished. I found myself wondering if it would be too prudent to suggest a new manga to be added to that list over manga that get their own subforum.

I think Death Note is a winner, or Mahou Sensei Negima, seeing as how those two titles have gotten over 1000 replies.

Of course an alternative way of handling this could be that you make a subforum for the great mangakas of the respective series and move the manga threads there, so the fans can see which other manga the same artist draws...

    Just an idea

I like this idea. I will see about getting more sub forums open in the next few days.

    Might I had my $.02?

I would not advise adding a Death Note subforum...the series just ended; there wouldn't be that much to discuss. Better to open a forum for one of the big, ongoing series...like Berserk.

I don't think berserk can live up to 1/10 of what the current listed series managa, and I think the reason for this is that, it's just too serious, and there isn't any fanservice so I don't think we'd get any "Guts vs. santa" or "your favorite character" polls. But Mahou Sensei Negima on the other hand has and probably will have lots of fanservice based on how many characters are involved.

You got a good point about Death Note, but that is also why I suggested the alternative idea of making subforums for mangaka's not all mind you, just those who're really famous for their works, and who has a few long series, e.g. Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, etc), Adachi Mitsuru(Katsu, H2, Rough, Touch), Ken Akamatsu(Love Hina, Mahou Sensei Negima, A.I), Inoue Takehiko(Vagabond, Slam Dunk, REAL).

Shaman King flourished because of all the cute characters and good story, and there were a great number of characters in it you could support. And I think that's needed for a manga to be able to have so many visitors.

problem with berserk is that its really slow. 1 chapter per 3 weeks i think, so people probably wouldnt post so much

I'm not sure if Mahou Sensei Negima needs a forum at the moment. It seems to me that it's a slow topic that mostly consists of questions about how to get the manga and how fast it's being scanned and all.

On the other hand, perhaps that would improve with a full forum dedicated to it.

Why not have a vote? Ask the people what new subforum they would want to have through a thread-poll or something along those lines. I know few people who read the Feedback section, but perhaps if it was in an announcement, or even Misc. Series...

The idea about subforums for authours is interesting, and I like the idea, although it may cause problems if people don't care to name the manga of the topic in the title. Unless there was an additional subforum to that with some of the more popular series of that authour, and then a section for other discussion (within a single subforum), I think it could be a little difficult to handle.

Also, I don't know if slow releases will necessarily slow down the posting. HunterxHunter has a large thread dedicated to it and it's known to be one of the slowest releases. Still... if all those posts are questions about release dates, or complaints... I wouldn't know... but there are things to consider for every decision.

Alternatively, perhaps a breakdown according to genre? Forums for Action/Adventure (with subforums into different series), forums for sports manga, for psychological thriller, for romance/comedy, etc. That might work a little better. Since a lot of mangaka tend to create works in the same genre anyway, it would also be a form of mangaka classification.

Manga Genre Focus: Romance, Comedy, Slice-of-life. Primarily shounen, then seinen and shoujo.

Not all manga fit into categories, though, or into a single category only. It's pretty hard to classify them that way. Also, people sometimes have different ideas on what series is of what genre.

I think it could work, but could be quite difficult. Also, I'm sure you'd have new people posting in the wrong sections because they didn't read the rules, or because they just don't know what's up.

Would a forum like that allow for requests in each genre? "I want recommendations for action/adventure manga!" kind of things? I'm tempted to think those kinds of requests would be common - even if you did create a list of recommended manga for each forum...

Well... it could work... but I'm not sure how. Then again, it's not really my business...

ehh... there is such a thing like "too organized" and we don't want people to jump too much around to find the thread they're looking for. I think the mangaka would work better than the manga category thing. but then again adding a new manga among those that are already named might be just as good.

Personally, I think we should just add a new subforum or two for now. There seems to be no problem with the existing ones, and I think it might cause a lot of confusion if a large change - like organizing by manga-ka - happened at once.
