How would a shounen manga that's all about nakama work like that?
We have only a handful of fleshed out memorable characters in Fairy Tail. If you kill off one of them each arc just to do that differently, soon enough we'll run out of characters.
Or should the manga make up and introduce new ones all the time. Characters he'd first have to flesh out in the manga to make the readers like them so they will accept them when he kills of the old characters everyone liked like gray or ezra.
Or maybe he should follow the totally unpredictable Star Trek formula and introduce someone that ends up dying all the time?
Not to mention that the whole reason to fight for your nakama get's a bit undermined if they die all the time.
Let's face it. This is a shounen so the good guys don't die. That's just how it works.
Let some background characters die that we readers do not know or like, but that are still important to the characters (they are their nakama too even if we don't know them), and let them come out of the battles alive. I like it that way in shounen mangas. It lacks unpredictability, but at least you don't have to go through things you otherwise would've to go through. Like loosing someone that you've grown to like. Or wondering and waiting when Kurono will be back (in Gantz)., or who'll die this time.
