I don't think that's how all japanese people are. Just how the author has been emphasizing the difference between sena and other athletes period.

^The overall theme is the opposite though. Sena is just being set up as at a disadvantage currently just to build up to his inevitable defeat of Panther. But that is such a common theme. I just wish they could do it as humorously as Prince of Tennis, where Ryoma's english was like something that came out of google translator.
