Hmm... I bet that Homer will be the only quarterback that can survive Gaou's blitz. The foreshadowing seems quite obvious. It seems like most of the players we picked last week turned out to be on the team, though Akaba and Yamabushi were a bit of a surprise, and Onihei was a no-show. I wonder who's going to turn up for the tryouts?

I don't see how Akaba and Yamabushi were surprises. Akaba seemed like one of the most obvious choices considering his understanding of game strategy and his strong across-the-board skills. Yamabushi had always been comparable to Kurita too. In fact, I was surprised to see everyone root Kurita in considering his horrible speed.

I somehow missed the foreshadowing, though now that you mention it makes perfect sense.

Ah, I meant Akaba's decision to only be part of the kick team, rather than an offensive or defensive player, was a bit surprising (though in retrospect, it makes sense considering what we know of his character). I had no doubt he would be included in Team Japan. But Yamabushi... I dunno. He never really stood out for me. I mean, the only things I can remember about him was that he maintained good control of the linemen under him, fell several times for Hiruma's tricks, and was overpowered by Kurita.

I guess maybe he'll be good for controlling the line. I mean, I can't really think of Kurita or Gaou as the sorts who would be able to lead the linemen. Kurita's a follower, and Gaou's a wild card. Banba or Yamabushi are more suited for exerting control of the line, since Onihei isn't around.

^I still don't see the need for Onihei. Last time we saw Onihei on the field he himself was talking about his retirement, so I wasn't expecting to see him back. I mean, he lost to Mizumachi! He might have leadership skills, but Yamabushi covers all the need for Onihei and has more power and speed (and talent...). That's also why I'm surprised by the insistence on Kurita (since Gaou covers his power), but I guess a plot device is a plot device and Deimon's leads will continue to be the story's leads.

Oh, and I agree on the kick team thing. Now I guess either Musashi or Koutarou are guaranteed a spot on the team, though one was already likely to get recruited anyways.
