it was pretty good. unexpected plays, but still not enough. it looks like deimon will probably lose, but this is just the first chapter of the game, so we'll see.

actually most of it was expected. except the hornet thing. what im thinking is that Hiruma's pass might b intercepted, but Deimon will win eventually.

ishimaru has finally had the spotlight and made use of his special unoticability skill but then again... its just plain ishimaru...

and why are the people here so pessimistic... the title here is eyeshield21 and not "SLAMDUNK"... why can't you be happy about deimon winning the Christmas Bowl?

All the first-string players of Teikoku (even their linemen) can run 40 yards under 5 seconds, so only Sena and Ishimaru can ever catch up to their speed.

This will be bad since other offensive players of Deimon like Monta, Hiruma, Taki and Yukimitsu can only run 40 yards in 5 seconds or slower.

It seems like we will finally get to see Monta vs Taka in the next chapter, unless the pass is intercepted by other player such as Yamato.

Although it's not "SLAMDUNK", it seems that Deimon does not have what it takes to beat Teikoku..

But we will see later whether they are able or not..

All we have seen is Deimon's players' skill, but we do not know what kind of godly ability those Teikoku's have, especially Karin, since she is the 1st string QB of Teikoku..

What makes her so special...

i think the authors of ES21 wouldn't want their work to be compared to slamdunk since slamdunk made an impact on the sports genre but making the main team lose the finals...

doing the same thing will compromise the popularity of ES21 by people comparing it to slamdunk....

^Unfortunately, the sports genre is more established now, so no matter what ES's author does, the ending will be comparable to another major sports manga.

Buut, I too am annoyed by the constant Slam Dunk references. We get the damn idea already. Now focus on the damn chaps...

just because deimon is losing in terms of talent doesn't mean they will lose... they experienced this in almost every game they play exept for a few teams like the scorpions and guts...

Not exactly. In the previous teams that Deimon has faced except Oujou, Seibu and Shinryuuji, there have only been one or two star players. Even then there was pretty much only one, or at most two, "battle(s)" to be fought and won by one or more of the Deimon players.

For example:
Taiyou Sphinx - Monta had to defeat Kagaguruma, the Huh-huh-huh Brothers had to defeat the linesmen
Zokugaku Chamaleons - Sena had to defeat Habashira
Bando Spiders - Taki had to defeat Akaba
Kyoshin Poseidon - Sena had to defeat Kakei, Komusubi had to defeat Mizumachi
Nasa Aliens - Sena had to defeat Panther
You get the idea.

While there were other players that were significant and did pose as problems, their "Deimon counterpart" was at an equal or close to equal level as them. Take the Aliens for example. Watt, Homer and the Gonzales brothers were worthy opponents and the Shuttle Pass was pretty deadly, but Hiruma and Monta had an answer to that. Panther, on the hand, was the seemingly unstoppable threat until later on.

Now take the Teikoku Alexanders. Not only do they have Taka and Yamato (who Agon actually backed away from), but with the rest of the team is faster than majority of Deimon and have been selected from hundreds of players.

But then again, this IS manga and this IS Deimon... We've already seen them lose, so we know they're human (hahaha), so why not make it a good ending?
