Claymore isn't that bad too.
Claymore isn't that bad too.
^It even is one of the best mangas I know, but, in my point of view, it´s not part the genres I am asking for here.

=\ Claymore isn't dark at all. It's just an action/adventure seinen that's pretty good.
Imo Goth: Wristcut Incident is good. Idk if that kinda dark is your thing, but it's out as a manga and as a novel.

They've said it before and I'll say it again: Shin Angyo Onshi. The story doesn't seem special at first but it gets to be a few volumes after. And yes, after a few volumes, the art developed into one of the most breath-taking I've seen in a while. It's epic.
For samurai goodness, go with Vagabond by INOUE Takehiko and SAMURA Hiroaki's Blade of the Immortal. REAL (also by INOUE) is a slice-of-life series about the world of disabilities and wheelchair basketball. Not really dark but makes you contemplate about life just the same.
Overall, I like the above mentioned titles not just for the great plot and art but also for its respectful portrayal of women.
PS: I know of a couple of 'dark' shoujos as well. How dark do you wanna go?![]()
But once you conquer the world, then comes the hard part.
What kind of world would you create?

How dark? Well I think Monster is partially already to dark... But I have no clear borders there...
You are right about Shin Angyo Onshi and I just recommend it and the other YOUN In-Wan/YANG Kyung-Il Manhwas to others. (Island and Zombie Hunter are both perfect examples for the comics I like)

Claymore
Gantz
Dragon Head
Übel Blatt
Vinland Saga
These are all pretty dark and serious imo.
^ Übel? oha das zu lesen könnte übel werden...
Übel and Dragon Head I don´t know, Claymore and Vinland Saga are good (though as already said in reference to claymore, they aren´t really dark in my point of view)
Gantz... Das mag Ich ganz und gar nicht! (This one isn´t to my liking)
