Thread: new to manga, what series should i read?

hey i just started checking out manga today.. i saw souleater n thought the character was so cool so i read 45pages of it on onemanga.com...but i dont think it has its own manga books yet...i really liked the story and characters! i was wondering if u guys knew any good manga books that have characters that look similar to souleater...blackstar is pretty kool too..also i liked the story....so any suggestions? i was looking at naruto n bleach but i want something with characters more like souleater.thx guys

hmm well i probably like any genre but i think i prefer something like souleater! like with comedy, fighting, action, n cool characters!

Just for reference's sake: Soul Eater is a shounen action/adventure with strong supernatural and comedic elements. Basically, a bunch of teenagers have swords which require them to "eat" 99 human souls and 1 witch soul in order to qualify as proper shinigami. Art style (which I think the OP is looking at) is slightly chibi-cute, so more of the Shaman King / Disgaea variety than the more elongated-figure Oh! Great or CLAMP style. Thematically, it's pretty much shinigami / souls / witchcraft / gothic-halloween.

Assuming "souleater92" refers to the birth year of the OP, we're talking younger shounen rather than older shounen. So simpler and unambiguous characters, lots of action and comedy, and fairly uncomplicated lightweight plot.

Therefore, try the following series:
- Shaman King
- Disgaea
- MAR (Marchen Awakens Romance)
- Flame of Recca
- Hunter x Hunter
- School Rumble

cool thanks for the responses, i will check them all out!! also i found a manga book called jing king of bandits twilight tales#3 at my house...is that a good series? the book covers for it look really kool

...you just had a random volume of an (slightly) obscure series at your house? Guess your not from the US lol. Um, seeing as its the third volume you'll probably be lost with the story and it'll probably end with a cliffhanger since theres 7 volumes in total. I couldnt find scans when i looked for it, so read it if you want, but good luck finding the rest of the series anywhere..

WHA!? I AM FROM U.S.!!! lol...it was from 4 years ago wen i went to an anime store at the mall n got it bcuza the kool cover...haha i know..dumb..but i think i was 12 at the time..i dont think ill read that series..lol..i think ill just try bleach, naruto, deathnote, n one piece..they seem to be the most popular..i think ill buy bleach first!! also..wen i go to buy it..how many volumes should i get? like how long does each1 last?
