Romance/Harem w/a little
I am looking from some completed series that have romance and/or harem situations w/some ecchi or fanservice--full out hentai is not necessary.
I am currently reading Ichigo 100% and loving it--it's a great example of exactly what I am looking for--also the longer the series the better!
Similar titles that I have already read include Bitter Virgin and Girl Saurus.
I mainly mentioned ecchi/fanservice because I like the parts when the characters get together to be more than a hug or kiss sometimes...
I did read the titles Futari Ecchi, Virgin Na Kankei and Slut Girl, but I feel that these titles are closer to the Hentai area.
I have tried to use the search function on Mangaupdates but I don't seem to be able to get it to work properly at this time, so any recommendations would be great!
Hatsukoi Limited is the one I've most recently enjoyed. You might also like Pastel.
thanks for the reply. when the manga mentioned isnt on this site, what is your recommendation for tracking it down?
I try to use mangaupdates and wikipedia for story summaries/plot and hopefully the correct number of volumes and/or chapters available, but beyond that I have just been googling the title along w/ 'download' and 'manga' as my add'l search terms. any advice?
What I usually do is check mangaupdates to find the scanners, and check their websites to see whether they have direct downloads. If they don't, I figure they are in fact really not interested in sharing it with the unwashed masses and move on to another series. :-P In this case, I happen to know without checking that Pastel is available at Dynasty Scans; I believe Hatsukoi Limited can be gotten from at least one of the scanner sites.
I don't know if these are what you're looking for, but they might fit.
Mahou Sensei Negima!
DNA^2(not to be confused with DNAngel)
thanks for the advice...so i just finished Ichigo 100 today and i can barely bring myself to get out of bed...the ending just floored me!
Anyways, I have a feeling that Ichigo 100 will be hard to top for me, but once i regain the courage to suffer disappointment I will no doubt continue to read on.
anyone else have any recommendations?
Hmm... lemme guess - you were a fan of Toujou too? Personally, I thought Ichigo 100% had the most well-balanced love triangle I've seen in a harem series, but the fanservice sort of detracted from the overall experience. Oh well, to each his own.
Anyway, off the top of my head, I''s is exactly what you're looking for to read next. And the ending is actually equal to Ichigo 100%, though it feels more like an emotional rollercoaster ride along the way. Ichitaka has been in love with his classmate Iori since he first set eyes on her... but can't screw up enough courage to confess. Luckily, fate throws them together for a class committee, and thus is born the pair of I's. However, just when Ichitaka is about to get started on his road to a relationship, his childhood friend Itsuki comes back from the States to live with him, in remembrance of a promise long ago. Itsuki has turned into this totally hot girl in the meantime, and when Iori sees them together she immediately assumes the worst. Will Ichitaka ever be able to find true love? And which girl will it be with? 12 volumes, completely scanlated and licensed, covering 5 years and a whole lot of girls whose names starts with I.
Love Hina, of course, is also another very popular classic example of this, and has an even better ending than the other two. Keitaro Urashima is a college ronin trying to pass the entrance exams for Toudai (Tokyo University), because he once made a childhood promise with a girl to meet with her there. Unfortunately, he no longer remembers her name or face, but he's determined to keep that promise. Because of that, he goes to live at his grandmother's inn, Hinata sou, but finds out that it's been converted into a girl's dorm and he has to work part-time as the manager. To make matters worse, on his very first day he manages to be mistaken as a pervert and throws the entire dorm into a ruckus as all the girls are out to get him. Will he ever be able to survive the wacky antics of the girls at Hinatasou, and get into Toudai to fulfill his promise with that girl? 14 volumes, completely scanlated and licensed, covering 2-ish years and a whole lot of crazy naked violent girls and panty flashing.
And let us not forget one of the greatest romantic classics of all time, Maison Ikkoku, which has the best ending I've ever seen in a romantic comedy. Yuusaku Godai is a college ronin who has repeatedly failed the university entrance exams, but he's determined to succeed this time. If only his crazy and noisy neighbours at Maison Ikkoku would just leave him alone! Fed up, Godai is just about to move out when he meets the new manager, Kyoko Otonashi, a beautiful and sad young widow. Godai instantly falls in love... but will a college failure like him ever be able to win the heart of a widow like Kyoko? And how do you compete with a perfect husband who's dead? 15 volumes, completely scanlated and licensed, covering about 4 years of very strong character development amidst crazy antics.
Hmm... what else?
Gacha Gacha is actually two separate stories, both under the same name and author. The first arc (~Capsule) talks about a girl who does some testing for a new VR game called Gachax2, and which results in her getting split personalities due to all the AI characters of the game being downloaded into her brain. Now, her neighbour has to help her deal with all of the different personalities that are running amuck in her body, but will he be able to control himself in the various compromising situations they get into? (5 volumes, completed scanlated and licensed)
The second arc (~Secret) talks about a high school guy who's in love with his big-breasted schoolmate, but who gets knocked out and kidnapped in order to test the new and improved Gachax2. This time around, it has another weird effect - whenever the guy sneezes, he changes gender (and vice versa). Of course, all sorts of interesting possibilities open up to a guy in a girl's body... including making friends with the girl of his dreams and indulging in some very intimate female-only situations. As long as she doesn't sneeze and change back. (volume 6-16, completely scanlated, but not all licensed volumes are released yet)
Then there's Unbalance x Unbalance. Now this is actually a fairly interesting twist on fanservice-heavy romance, though it's Korean manhwa instead of Japanese manga. Myung Jin-Ho is a manly high school student now reformed from a violent past. When he finds a wallet and returns it to its owner, he meets Na Hae-Young, an extremely-well-endowed young woman, who gets introduced the next day as his class' homeroom teacher. To make things more interesting, both of them start feeling strong attraction towards each other... but their teacher-student relationship absolutely forbids such conduct. Series is still ongoing at 65 scanlated chapters and lots of unresolved sexual tension still hanging in the air, though some progress has been made in spite of their best intentions.
thanks for the great info. I have since finished I's and also Parallel. I am waiting for Pastel to be finished b4 i start that and will get Gacha Gacha right now. Love Hina and Suzuka are ready to go as well--i almost want to save Love Hina for a bit, but i might not be able to wait. :)
Currently, I can only find vols 1-9 of Maison Ikkoku but i have yet to go to IRC...hoping to find an easier way.
Finally, re: ichigo 100, I am a huge fan of Toujou, but i really admire the way Nishino worked at their relationship...so, it was a really, really tough call...and as to I's, I wish I could have seen a little more of Itsuki, as she was my favorite character.
Yeah,Love Hina and I´´s is cool (I´m currently still reading I´´s - but the freakin time... -.-").
If you want to search for manga and don´t mind if it´s only online, then you can look for the series on OneManga and on Anip (you can dll and read mangas there - but I think the site ain´t that popular for some reason xD)
And Ichigo 100% was cool too - the ending was surely not what I expected, but the author herself said that things in life don´t always turn out to be like you wished or something. But overall it was a pretty good ending ^^
