Thread: Interesting Anime/Manga Recommendations?

Hey all,

Can anyone suggest some interesting manga or anime for me? I understand that people have different opinions on anime/manga so I'll be a little more descriptive. I enjoy deep plots that make you think. I'm not picky on genre. They all have great things about them. I'll go ahead and give out some examples that I like for a general idea. Some interesting anime that I have seen before includes: Ninja Scroll, Rurouni Kenshin (OAVs), Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Fullmetal Alchemist, Serial Experiments Lain, and Cowboy Bebop.

If anyone can give me their suggestions I would greatly appreciate it ^-^

So... you can start off with Appleseed, which is set in a post-apocalyptic future in which mankind tries to build an utopia using genetically-engineered beings. Death Note, obviously, is good for thought. Actually, most shounen/seinen series that center around conspiracies would probably be suitable for you, so go have a look at Spiral (Suiri no Kizuna), Monster, Gantz, and others similar to that.

And in a slightly-different vein, you can also explore man's relationship with technology through the Chobits manga (manga, not anime. The anime doesn't do justice to the source.) Or look at Believers, if you want to explore the effects of self-delusion and human depravity. Or PlanetES if you want to think about the relationship between man and space.
