    I'd recommend Full metal Alchemist, but tragedy isn't what's mainly about. However when it does try to be sad, it does so much more effectively than most manga.

    Now and Then, Here and There sounds closer to what you're looking for, but it's an anime.

    If it's anime, I'd go for Grave of the Fireflies (well, I watched the live action).

    People keep saying Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is sad, I've never read/watched it. Friend said it was weird.

    I watched KgNE again awhile ago, wasn't all that affected by it. I suppose my sixteen-year-old past self was a lot more melodramatic than my eighteen-year-old current self.

    That said, it's still depressing. Especially the last episode. Coma girl on a wheelchair on the beach, BAAAAAWWWWW.

    I would recommend Air and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien as well. FMA has some tearjerking moments as well.

    I would recommend Bokko, although its top of the chart in terms of violence for me at least

    Kimi Ga Nozumu Eien a.ka. Rumbling Hearts and its alternate ending Kimi Ga Nozumu Eien season two it's hard not to cry with that title.

    Katsura's I''s made me drop a tear or two with it's ending... I really don't know why but it really got me and it has funny parts like you wanted :P

    Another one is Real by the master Inoue it is quite sad, and really well wrote and draw...
