I second Itsumo Misora, of course.
Initial D is a manga about night-racing, and a genius driver Takumi, who can race down Mount Akina's slopes in an old, beat-up delivery car. It's well worth a read - at least the first arc. The second arc (Project Initial D) starts to get a little stale, though.
Itazura na Kiss is a simple, fairly predictable, but entirely enjoyable shoujo romance. The boy that Kotoko likes outright rejects her immediately upon her confession, causing her to be the laughingstock of the school. She swears never to have anything to do with him again... but when she gets home, she finds out that her house is under renovations and her father has made arrangements for them to stay with a friend of his. And guess who happens to be the son of that family? Can Kotoko hold on to her resolve when the boy she likes is just a room away in the same house? (Btw, there was also a live-action drama adaptation made of this, called "It started with a kiss", and my sister assures me that it's quite good as well)
