NHK, the manga based off the novel is actually quite a good read. A dark and nihilistic read, but a good read nonetheless. Mostly about a hikkikomori and how he changes his ways. Or not.

Mistelteen no Mahou - The description on Mangaupdates doesn't look very promising, but it's actually kinda good. Not brill, but decent, in a ordinary-schoolgirl-turned-magic-girl sort of way. Bonus: Norse mythology dressing, and a Fenrir wolf with so split a personality he became two beings, Fen and Riru. Due warning: art's kinda sketchy.

Min Min Mint - OMG teh lame. Contemporary miko gets a power-up outfit that vanishes whenever she questions what the bleep is going on, leaving her naked. Advice: don't draw ecchi fanservice if your anatomy is so poor it makes women look like distorted freaks. For added lameness, there's also a shotacon catboy companion.

Mama wa Shougaku 4-Nensei aka "Mama Is a 4th-Grader" - Nastumi is about to follow her parents to London (overseas transfer) when an infant appears mid-air in her living room. She initially takes it for an alien, but it turns out to be her own child, sent back in time by her 15-years-older self to save it from an unspecified catastrophe (in 2007!). So now she's living with her mangaka aunt, trying to take care of a baby with a Sweetpea-class* ability to get in trouble.

The art's from 1992 (though a surprisingly good example of that style) and the age is young (I think kodomo -- children's manga -- rather than even younger shoujo, but I can't find what magazine it ran in), but it's still fun in a sweet-and-slapstick sort of way. And it's complete at 11 chapters, so a quick read for a day you need an un-ironic pick-me-up.

    * From Popeye. Look it up.

And we've got a whole bunch of reds w00t. I need to go through them, but two that immediately stand out are:

Penguin Brothers - Probably the best series with "penguin" in the title, even though it doesn't actually have penguins. The reference is to how everyone in the school is divided into two camps, the blacks and whites, and wears uniforms of that color. Does a transfer student genki girl have the genkiness to convert a majority of students into being "greys"? And still have time left over to figure out what connection the leaders of the two factions have? And recover her repressed childhood memory? ... which makes it sound a little stupid, but really, it's one of the best shoujo school dramas I've read, and I include Fruits Basket and Kare Kano in that list.

Pahanjip - Manwha, not manga, set somewhere in the Korean middle ages -- to be honest, I forget exactly when, but I think after the fall of the Three Kingdoms. A snotty magician and his swordsman bodyguard and a host of Chinese supernatural folklore. Check it out -- and the swoopy art.

Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! I didn't notice this in the first scan through the list:

Ouke no Monshou - I've been looking for this for ages -- shoujo classic, 53 volumes long and still running, one of the best-selling shoujo manga ever, the title can be translated as "Crest of the Royal Family" but it's also known as "Daughter of the Nile". Time-travel historical romance, when the daughter of Egyptologists is swept back in time to ancient Egypt and palace intriegue. (And yes, predates Anatolia Story, which does the same thing with the Hittite Empire.)

BTW, to anyone who saw Origami and was hoping for some hot paperfolding action, sorry: the word elements are ori=descend and kami=god, written with different kanji (夅神). Or it would be written with different kanji if the title wasn't actually in romanji, but nevermind.

It is, nonetheless, a pleasant, lightly angsty shoujo fantasy from the mangaka of Milk Crown, rife with several puns explained by the scanlators. Not highly recommended, but I want to read more.

Oh, and the Othello is the fun one by Satomi Ikezawa licensed by Del Rey -- recommended as well.

    Pokemon is an epic manga.

I always read that under my blanket with fleshlight so my parents don't find out

    ^ Just die already.

My picks from this bunch are: Ohikkoshi, Pokemon Adventure / Pokemon Special (they're the same thing), Pluto and Ping Pong Club. Pokemon Adventure in particular is deceptively awesome.

There's also a couple of Taiyo Matsumoto mangas there if any of you (fags) are into indie comics.

Ohikkoshi's on my list of ones to try -- looks good. But then, Dark Horse often has good taste.
