I'm not really sure. If Ai is included then that's good 'cause she knows a lot more than most her own real age do, and they tend to listen to her so she can keep them from getting into too much danger without Conan to protect them.
If without Ai, then I think it's a tie. Sure Kogoro has experience and is technically better than them, but he only bothers to really use his brains when someone close to him is in trouble so it doesn't do much good.
If it's to do with defense, as long as Ai keeps them from doing something too dangerous, they'll be okay. They're pretty resourceful, after all.
I think that they'll become a really great detective group when they grow up. Even though Shinichi was smarter than them at their age, he's just a smart kid. They're pretty smart for their age (especially Mitsuhiko) so my guess is that they'll pursue their own careers while staying together as the Shounen Tantei.
