Default How old is Conan now?

Do the characters ever age? Exactly how much time has gone by in the story? Ever since the beginning, I was hoping that the Detective Boys would grow up and go to middle school and stuff. Also, is it possible that the drug Conan and Haibara took prevents them from growing?

I know it's a manga, but shouldn't there be some progress in time?

well, there are at least 3-4 winter/xmas stories in the whole manga, so they should have at least 3-4 years older by now. Of coruse... they will never grow up..

I wonder if he changes back to be 17-teen again, while his girlfriend will be 20 by that time - I don't know if she would like to go out with such youngster anymore...

They're not exactly together yet. I think the cure is going to be some kind of fast aging serum, since the body(as I think) does not know what age it is supposed to be. From the serum they can control what age to be.

Even if he would age only to 17 years body wise... He would still have what ever his personal mental age is, so just because his body would be 17 he would seem older because he's be though so much and lived longer than 17 years. So his girl friend would have a win win, a mature younger guy.

I say Ai makes a perfect version of that medicine and she can drink the perfected version. She might be a bit younger compared to him but atleast their age is a lot closer now.

... that or he can just forget about her and go after Ai

lol.. you just luv that pairing don't u Vincent.. but I gotta agree with Kurosagi.. the story would've been much better if they did age.. the series could've explored so many more possibilities of good storylines..

i agree having the characters age adds to the realism of the manga but then again its just a manga... but i mean cmon 500+ crimes scenes past and as posted before this 4 xmas stories and no aging just dont fit... =/
You know what? I heard that if two people go to toudai together... Then they can...

It was stated in the most recent Org confrontation storyline that Akemi was killed mere "months" before, so canon hasn't covered a full year yet as far as the characters are concerned. Seasons and dates aren't an indication of time passing in-story, they actually correspond to when the story was published in the real world. As far as holidays go, I only remember there being too many mentions of New Years in canon (the mainline manga serialized in Shonen Sunday). There's only ONE canon Valentine's day, for example, the other one was an anime original.

There haven't been 500+ mysteries in canon, either. Last I counted there were about 170 discrete mystery storylines. It's still getting to be a bit much to fit into a year, of course, considering the downtime between cases mentioned in dialogue.
