There's a whole 'nother thread about this, and no, the last 2 episodes will be subbed by someone somewhere, perhaps, even likely, by someone on this very forum...

actually, YES it IS as nearly as bad as all that T_T i hate it when character's voices are butchered in dubs. But i guess it could have been a lot worse.....*thinks about high girly pitched voice for Light* *stabs self in the aorta*
The whinny voice isn't the main problem, his voice just sounds, emotionless, like the person doesn't have any context and is just reading word by word.
I couldn't put my finger on who Light's VA was, but I KNOW that voice. Then, after watching the trailer again, it hit me like a pen through the chest:
Light's English VA sounds exactly like Domon Kasshu's from G Gundam.
They have GOT to be kidding. Seriously, this has to be a joke. Next thing you know, they'll have Johnny young Bosch playing L in his Ichigo voice, and the dub will reach the absolute threshold of shittiness. But even if they get L right, that won't save the dub, because the Light and L interaction was one of the main draws for me--and there's no way they can pull THAT off if I keep expecting Light to yell "SHINING FINGER!!" whenever he writes in the Note.

Its time to uncross the fingers folks. When I heard that Viz licensed DN I had crossed them, hoping that they wouldn't screw DN up like they did with all my other shows - seriously, I watched the premier of naruto on Cartoon Network and Naruto's voice gave me nightmares and put me off the show for years.
I mean, I guess its not the voice actor's fault, but the casting directors. He's not bad, but he's not Light. He sounds like a fratboy jock, totally not incharacter with intellegent, honorstudent Light. I only heard L's noncomputer generated voice for a moment, so I can't draw any conclusions from that.
The sad part is that I'll probably buy the DVDs anyway and just change the audio track to Japenses with subtitles when I watch it. Its just such a pain to hook up my laptop to my TV. Anyone else think this way?
:sigh: Why couldn't Funimation get the rights? They did such a good job with FMA (not that anyone could compare to paku romi, but they did the best they could.).
the dub sucks....but im just saying what everyone else has said. Lights voice just doesnt fit. they need someone more laid back that would fit him more. To bad funimation couldnt get the rights i 100% agree with you missb. I also think Gainax could do much better. After seeing how well they did with FLCL.
Im the only one?
Really? Champloo and FLCL were way better in Dub, IMO...

You're all drawing conclusions on about 2 minutes of voice clips. Wait for the first few episodes, jeeze. Im going to watch it becuase 1- It's DeathNote. 2- It's in english. And 3- I'll be able to share it with my friends who are wary of Subs. It's easier to share and enjoy a dub. A lot of people complain about Naruto and Bleach, but i've enjoyed them just fine. So, I suppose im the ONLY person who was delighted to know there would be a DN dub. Be happy that it wont be One-peice'd. Heh.

Reason: Rawr, crack?
You sir, make an obscene amount of sense, and I am likewise delighted at a Death Note dub. Ditto on the Bleach & Naruto dubs; they're just fine, and in Bleach's case very good.

No, it isn't One Piece all over again. Death Note (to our knowledge) won't be edited.
