Nate river...sounds american alright but hell it could be european O_o

learned mello's real name and it has to be russian/german; he sounds very christian....micheal (....english.....>_<) but he lives in freaking england/america so it's confusing.

Let's just say L is a mutt XD and Matt is a baka american

To be honest, I don't even think the author came up with a nationality. If anything, they deliberately made his nationality ambiguous to make him seem more enigmatic, which Obata portrayed really well.

Personally, if I had to pick one nationality, it'd be British. That just feels like the best fit, somehow.

Why has everyone concluded that a name like Nate River has to be from the States? He could be Canadian, Australian, Kiwi, maybe even Scottish or Irish, don't rule it out just because his last name doesn't begin with O' or Mc.

He is from sweden!XD just kidding^^' I just had to say something.
But I think L might be half Japan and half American. Cus it ain't unusual that Amerikans and Japanese people mary and so on (correct me if I am wrong). And if he was in GBrittain it might just be because he was really god at playing tennis. If I'm not wrong don't they have a kinda big tennis competition in GB?Oo or/and His parents was really, really rich people and died when L was little wich had the conclution that he ended up in an orphanhagen (that is why he is so "foud of them") and gained al the money (I am just guessing that L is rich cause just think about how much tose cakes must have cost him^^'). And over at the orphanhagen he met the professor/Watari ~tam ta da dam~ and he discovered that L is/was really clever and so on... ... ... ...
... ... or just ignore me-_-" that doen't relly make any sense huh? and I am so sorry that I really suck when it comes to spellig-_- ... and gramar... and soccer

I actually though Nate was an american because:

River common name here and Euro, but more common here
He doesn't have an accent AT ALL (unlike Mello...and L traveled a lot so...)
Nate river....sounds really american than Miheal or *spoiler!*

Still L is like a mixture of many races and Matt/Near look obviously american....well Near....looks sorta albino

I think L is English/Japanese parent of each, Near is from either britian or america (hopefully not america xD)

sad to say yes she dies but not in the manga itself. but it is revealed that even thow she doesn't remember light being kira she falls in a despair after learning of Light's death through Matsuda and committed suicide a year later, on February 14, 2011

Near is definately british. I'm not going to say his real name, but it is most definately british.

And I kinda assumed Mello was Russian
