    Default I've derived Misa's lifespan.

    This is a repost of a post I made on the TOWNL forums. This comes from a discussion of Misa's lifespan. Using the timeline in volume 13, along with the character page for Misa, I was able to derive her true lifespan. Mind you, I could be off by a few days, since we can't be sure of the exact dates of a few things, but I'm not off by much. The amount of years is correct.

    If I made a mistake in my math, feel free to point it out...it's past midnight and I'm tired, so it's always possible that I screwed up.

    For those of you in search of math, here we go. This is based on the timeline from How To Read 13, along with the assumption that Misa died at the end of her natural lifespan.

    Misa was born on December 25, 1984.

    Let's call Misa's original lifespan, the moment before the deal, "x". "x" is in days.

    Misa had the shinigami eyes as of April 23, 2004. Since we don't know the precise dates, we'll say that was the day she made the deal (even though I know that's wrong by a week or two). As of then, her lifespan was "x/2".

    She forfeited the Death Note some time around June 8, 2006, 48 days after we're saying she got them. Thus, her lifespan was then (x/2)-48.

    On October 26, 2004, Misa regained the eyes and Rem killed L. I'm not entirely sure (I might be off by a couple of days), but it doesn't really matter. Thus her lifespan is [(x/2)-4]/2.

    Misa died on February 14, 2011. 6 years, 111 days had passed since her lifespan became [(x/2)-4]/2.

    I'll ignore leap years, since I don't want to worry about that. 6 times 365 is 2190. 2190 plus 111 is 2301.

    2301=[(x/2)-4]/2
    4602=(x/2)-48
    4650=x/2
    x=9300

    Misa's original lifespan, on April 23, 2004, was 9300 days.

    19(365)+6+31+28+31+23=

    That's how many days she had lived up until the 23rd. That's 7054 days.

    7054+9300=16354 days.

    16354/365=44.805 years.

    Misa was almost 20 at the time of the first trade, cutting her remaining lifespan to 12. She later cut it to 6, lived 6 years, and died.

    Her lifespan was rather short.

    O_O That's a lot of math. Thanks.

    Now that`s some surprise, in the anime it`s said that she`d get the remaining lifespan of the shiningami, who killed the criminal who wanted to murder her,
    was it considered in the calculation?

    I guess her original life spam would finish the night she was attacked and safed by that shinigami. And she was given the remaining life of the shinigami. Although we don't know this value I guess we should asume is the same as in the calculation.
    Don't know if Rem's lifespan was given to Misa tho... he did save her so she would have got some more time from that too.

    Yeah she should have got extra time from both Jealous and Rem.

    Her suicide, I think, we can assume was not at the end of her originally intended lifespan.

    In fact, Cooler, I appreciate you put alot of work into this, but at the end of the day, isn't all you're giving us the age when she died? Which you could just do my subtracting her birth date from her death date?

    sweet... im actually happier i understood what you wrote rather than the fact you just solved something id been wondering about for a while because i suck at calculus.

    so misa dies age 26... ouch.

    I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
    I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
    before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

    Oh, don't worry, this wasn't much work at all...5 minutes of finding the dates, then a couple of minutes of mental calculations.

    What I've derived is her final lifespan, after Jealous and Rem extended her life. Her original lifespan was about 7054 days...it was extended an unknown amount by Jealous, and then again by Rem.

    However, we don't know how life extensions work with regards to the shinigami, so this is the best I can do.

    Question About - How To Read 13

    Okay, well firs I wanted to say (even if this is off by a few weeks in total) this is very interesting. So thanks for figuring this all out.

    Now, I was wondering if I could ask you a question regarding what you mentioned, "the timeline from How To Read 13" - what exactly is that? Is it a special extra-information thing from the final vol.? Thanks to this site I've been able to read the entire manga, but I've only heard of this extra-info from a friend at fanfiction.net - could you tell me more about it? Thanks.

    Doesn't fit with this sentence which immediately follows it:

    Misa's lifespan was a hot topic before we knew she commited suicide, and when, Now, it's not, because either:
    (a) the suicide was at the end of her "fated lifespan", and so her lifespan is easily reached by subtracting her date of birth from her date of death; or
    (b) her suicide intervened and was not the original end of her fated lifespan, in which case, her lifespan is impossible to work out.

    And as for the "timeline in v13"... it's been said a few times, but V13 is an extra volume which doesn't have any extra story, but does have a collection of character profiles, and all sorts of extras, including a handy blow-by-blow neatly-written chronologically-ordered list of events that transpired throughout the manga. I dunno if it's possible to get it anywhere on the net, sorry.

    Well, there was a rule that stated that one's lifespan can be indirectly affected by the Death Note, so her suicide could have happened before her natural lifespan was supposed to end (due to Death Note users ending up in despair).
