interesting thread, i dont think near killed light because if he was going to do that, then near could easily have put a shotgun shell in lights chest and not have to go through all the risks and stuff

Okay, so maybe my sense of humor is weird, maybe I'll be laughing at you when you're getting stabbed repeatedly, so what.
Light was out of character, but he probably got too damn confident. He got used to the idea that everything was working smoothly and that he was a God. Besides, whenever there's a kink in his plans, he tends to lose it. When the fake L on tv started annoying him, he killed him automaticly, proving that Light really didn't care about punishing the "evil people", he was just doing it to become a god of the utopia. Light probably just got confident and made sucky plans. Mikami peeks through a door and writes down their names...><
WTF KIND OF PLAN IS THAT?! AN IDIOT COULD'VE THOUGHT OF THAT xO
I would've preferred it much more if Light didn't break down in the end. He was in control of himself all through the series, with maybe 1 or 2 times he lost a little bit of composure.
The thing with the end is that it probably had to end somewhat like that if Light was going to lose. His plan was practically flawless, and the only reason he did lose was because of Mikami. If the author had actually wrote the ending with Light having multiple plans for different contingencies, I doubt he would have lost.
Near might not of killed Misa though. She only had at most, until 25 to live, so it might've just been that she lived already to 1/4 of her normal life.
light couldve just stood there quietly when the people didnt start dieing. in some point of time he could find out n's name and just write it with blood when taken by the police
what would be the point in that? Arrested for the rest of his life, killing near and still getting arrested doesn't make for a good plan. Not to mention there is no police coming, the world is in the hand of kira, Near and the SPK were just going to hide Light somewhere and never speak of him again.

He could get anyone to do that. He wanted to actually prove Light was kira not just manipulate him. I know you are a light sympathizer, I am too, but this one doesn't work.
I dont think so... he had known he would capture him that way... so, ¿why being a criminal?
Light lost because evil can't win in shonen, and that's pretty much that. His plans wouldn't have worked no matter how well he was shown thinking them through, because it was the end of the series and "evil" had to be punished.
I would have preferred an ending where Mello assassinated him or something, since that could have worked without them needing to have Near "outsmart" Light.
Uryuu freaky, pale and geeky,
how do your powers grow?
"With gloves and scars and silver stars
and swords that I shoot from a bow,
yes, swords that I shoot from a bow."
You fail at teh postage.

I don't think so for two reasons:
1. I'm not sure but I don't think a human can use a shingami to kill someone through the note book, the reason light started acting weird was simply because of his inability to handle losing... that and the blood loss and trauma of being shot, that might have a little to do with it. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY
2. The manga ended, if cooler immortal was right, then there would probably be a sequel where near becomes kira, or where at least they MENTION something about Near killing light, Believe me the author is crafty but I don't think there is any way he would intentionally lead us to a conculusion not previously stated, the end closed almost every door, thus impossible to have any plot holes or questions of aftermath.
But thats just what I think
