It's not really fair to rate them by how long they lasted or whatever because I believe L would have won if Raito wasn't so dam good at manipulating. I mean, how on earth would he find out L's name? hehehe...he would probably have cracked and simply shot L in the face...but anywayz...

    Near > Mello
    Near + Mello < L
    L ?=? Raito or L > Raito
I would disagree with that. Light>L, which you don't have in there.

Also, Mikami has to be factored in. He may have screwed up at the end, but he was brilliant.

L is better than Light coz there is a handicap by Light owning the book, know the rules, etc.. (i mean the supernatural thing). If it's in normal situation L could have won..

Actually, I felt that L eventually won out in the end. After all, he paved the way for his 2 successors, Mello and Near. Even unto death, he had a trump card up his sleeve(mello and near).

That's foolish logic. The one who won is inferior because he had an advantage? The best you can get from that is that there's a chance that L is Light's equal. Nothing there suggests that L is superior.

Keep in mind how brilliant Light's plan was. L sat around making deductions and accusing people; he didn't tend to create "plans". His deductions were brilliant, and the early TV incident was quite clever, but outside of that...Naomi, for example, was an idiotic mistake on L's part. If he had simply checked on her whereabouts prior to her death he could have easily realized that Light killed her.

ok i agree with you that i make an unlogical statement.. i agree that L is not superior than Light in a normal situation.. i think i put a little feeling in the judgement... well for i am a human i should not judge..

well L did at one time admit that Light was smarter than him.
this is how I see it....

Ryuuku (smart enough not to get involve ^^)
    Light (as Kira)
    L
    Light (lost ownership of notebook)
    Near/Mello

Definetely Ryuuku. Then probably L, but he did died before he got to Raito so Raito had to be smarter than L. And if Near got Raito then Near had to be smarter then him.

Well, not necessarily foolish logic. The question wasn't who's SUPERIOR, it's who's SMARTER. As you said, L accomplished so much based solely on his observations and assumptions. Had he gone to the trouble of making plans as complex as Raito's, which he very likely was CAPABLE of doing, he would have accomplished them more effectively.

Yeah, Raito is definately better stratigically. But in INTELLIGENCE, it's gotta be L.

I agree Light had more information, and L had to do risky tests to find answers at the same time get , while light had to simply dodge traps.

Anyway if the police hired Sherlock Holmes instead then death note would have been a one-shot.

    1. Sherlock=P
    2. L greater or equal than light
    3. mello, and the other kid.
