The Smartest

IMO the worst part of Death Note was the businessman arc. It made complete sense after the fact, but it still felt like a waste. As for my vote for the smartest character, it would definitely be between Light and Near. Light brilliantly manipulated everyone, including L. Near was incredible in his predictions and overall genius. Keeping his emotions in check also gave Near an edge. For the record, I rank the smartest in this order:

1.Near
2.Light
3.L
4.Mello

well it would have to be l or light. although since l and light were so close the whole time but light not only had the deathnote and a deathgod he had a girlfriend/minion with the eyes of a shinigami. kind of hard to compete with that edge but up till the end of his life l was even with light where as near and mello both played more on emotions then facts and l did based on facts and probability and gathered info himself

lolz. I liked Matt, too, but he was unfortunately just a pawn like Mello T__T

Near can't be smarter than Raito! He only won by luck (aka Mello's death...grrr...)

It's not really fair to rate them by how long they lasted or whatever because I believe L would have won if Raito wasn't so dam good at manipulating. I mean, how on earth would he find out L's name? hehehe...he would probably have cracked and simply shot L in the face...but anywayz...

Near > Mello
