D.Gray-Man Chapter 181 - This looks strangely familiar...

It seems one of the Crow is a descendent of Miroku from Inuyasha, complete with Wind Tunnel and badassery. And, well, that's pretty much all that happens in this chapter.

The purpose of this arc, then, seems to be not only introducing a new Exorcist, but showing off the epic skills of Crow. First Link, now this new guy in a new uniform. By the way, the Crow with him is female. Seems for all the Vatican's misogeny in its priestly ranks, elite assassins can be of either gender. But it's the man who's really interesting here with his epic skills.

Also, that last panel is just mind-blowing. (Allen's starting to rival Kanda for Number of Times His Shirt is Destroyed. Well, it's a bit open now, but come on, I think about a million fangirls had a heart attack upon seeing that. Myself included, admittedly.)

Looks like this arc may be wrapped up in the next two or three chapters, thank god. Not that it hasn't been surprisingly good in recent chapters.

Indeed, that's definitely Miroku's Kazaana! Now I wonder if Allen and Kanda can take out that level 4...

I'm guessing they can and will, because this arc does need to end soon. However... As much of a disappointment as it would be, I'd almost prefer to see the level 4 just leave (be recalled, or escape to avoid the Kazaana). They're too powerful for Exorcists of that level to be able to take out just yet, even with six months or so of training, I believe.

...Then again, as I just said, they HAVE had over half a year of training since the last one...

Yes, this need to be resolved quickly and in a satisfying way. We still have more pressing and interesting matters at hand, after all.

I've just been discussing this with a friend, actually - there might be other reasons... that is, connecting it to the bigger picture. We know much more of Crow, for one. The biggest issue is what happens to the akuma after it's been sucked in; does it lose the chance to be exorcised and have its soul saved? That means a LOT for Allen. He absolutely hates that sort of thing, which means that if he ever finds out about this, there could be a huge split between him and the Order. (Allen wasn't around to see the modified akuma in action.) This arc could actually end up setting those events into motion. Additionally, the destination of the soul (or its possible destruction) is something Allen himself faces right now. The 14th is threatening to take him over, which means he could end up just like those akuma he doesn't manage to save.

Oh, and, uh, this might also tie into the Cross murder mystery somehow. At any rate, this arc has the potential to be very important for the story. I'd like to see it end soon too, but this may be a really influential moment that won't become clear until later on.

I'd say this is a very optimistic view on the recent events of this arc. But also a very interesting one at that.

If this turns out to be true it'll show your great insight into the story once more, on top of being one of the best calls about a manga I've ever read (and not only on this board).

I wonder can there be a higher level akuma in the future that can be stronger the Noahs?

...I can only hope it's the case. ^^;; I was sceptical about this arc at first, too. But then, I guess something had to happen. At the very least, we have learned much more about Crow, and it seems they'll play a big role in the story... but I really hope this opportunity to get Allen pissed off at events isn't wasted.

The level 4 might be stronger than (some?) Noah. Exorcists can match Noah in one-on-one battles (generally - Allen/Lenalee/Kanda/Lavi could, in all likelihood), but it still takes a General to kill a level 4, and even then, that's Cross...
