D.Gray-Man Chapter 179 - Or rather, Naruto Chapter 179...

Shitty raw is out. Yup, early. Expect a better raw and scanlation tomorrow, but the script has also been posted on MH.

So finally, DGM returns with an apparent change of art style, and an even bigger transformation of style, period. However, there's a pretty cover page, and a pretty colour page (included in the raw - the cover's separate and posted in the General Questions thread by Deathbringerpt), so I guess that's not too bad seeing how it's been more than two years since the last one. Nonetheless, I'm interested in hearing what you guys have to say, particularly since many of you are intelligent posters who won't go all "YAAAY DGM'S BACK WITH ANOTHER AWESOME CHAPTER" (unless you prefer Naruto to DGM and wish DGM was more like it or something).

Shitty raw was a nice way to say it. I think I've never seen a scanlation being done from a raw that was this horrible.
Speedscans are nice and all (at least as long as there is another group that does a hq scan later on), but why use a raw like that?

At the very least DGM is back now. Which is a good thing because I like it. And I can enjoy Eon's posts again (haven't seen that many since the series started the brake).

DGM's got a clown theme, for sure. Probably not a clown fetish, though - just watch some Ayumi Hamasaki videos and you'll see how much worse it can get.

Well, we did get the raw a day early (camshot?), so I can't complain. It's not like anyone would try to... or did they use it for a scanlation? >_< (Thanks, Feanor! :3 It's hard to post without a lot to discuss, for one...)

A group called Furtim2 used it for their scanlation.
Even if Hoshino had changed her art style you wouldn't notice it by reading that scan.
I have to download it again now that others have released too (and then wait for whatever to catch up).

Even if the manga isn't overloaded with it, the clown theme is pretty hard to miss.

No prob. This seems to be your favorite manga (or at least discussion board), which makes it twice as hard when it doesn't come out. No manga and nothing to talk about.

The clown theme is interesting, and I'd like to see where Hoshino takes it. We've seen Allen, Mana, and the Earl all described as clowns (but not the 14th). Could that imply a stronger connection there than just what exists? Could the references to different types of clowns play a role in this at all? (I do sometimes wonder if we see a bit of that in Allen's and Lavi's friendship... Allen sort of plays the 'straight man' in that, being the serious one and getting annoyed at Lavi's pranks. A small thing, but...)

After some searching through the hueco mundo site I finally found the chapter and read it again.

The art/drawings have not really changed, but I still had the feeling that it's different to the previous chapters.
But that could just be the case because the series was on hiatus for so long and it's been a while since I saw a chapter.
I don't know.

I wish DGM could be more like Naruto or Bleach. :(
