Even if they don't deal epic damage - they won. Result says it all : Exorcist 1 : Akuma 0

They don't always win against the opponents. Besides, the fact that they don't have epic power is good, right? It's not like Bleach where they do, and yet no one dies, either.

Both sides lost the Egg. The Order lost a bunch of scientists and most of their current forces were injured; the Earl lost some akuma and a level 4 that didn't even exist before this fight. Who lost so badly again?

Order got egg by accident just as Earl got 4lvl by accident; the bunch of scientists seems to be alive. Tapp is hardly so important. On the other hand, Earl lost an egg, which is supposedly very valuable.

^Scientists, humans and any living resources can be replaced. Exorcists can't. Level 3 and 4 akuma were quite rare some time ago and it's a bit pity they won't grow anymore. Also Noah power was revealed, so countermeasurements can be taken.

Some scientists are alive, but a bunch of nameless ones did die. The Earl had already lost the Egg; now no one has it. No Noah died; no Exorcists died.

Also, Kolox: WTF are you saying?! Humans can be replaced? >_> What a nice view you have of DGM, thinking of it so casually. If anything, it's shown that people are not replaceable. No one who has died has ever been replaced by someone else in that manga, which is probably why no one dies. The akuma CAN be replaced (at the cost of living people), but the scientists can't. The most they could do is train new scientists, which would take a while, and it wouldn't bring those dead ones back to life (who had strong ties with living people).

The Order lost people that the protagonists (if not the Order itself) cared for. The Earl lost some weapons. Both sides lost potential use of the Egg. Strategically, the Order won slightly, yes. In terms of costs, though, they also lost much more.

Digi - it's a war. One shouldn't weep about each soldier they lost and each of that soldier can be replaced. But there are some individuals which cannot be replaced - people who are leaders, who can do more - those people are to be protected.

There would be no Nazi Germany without Hitler. There would be no French campaign without Napoleon and there would be no today's USA without Lincoln. There are sometimes people more important and those people survived - Komui, Inspector, Exorcists.'

But even so - those people can be replaced too.

From that mentality, the Exorcists won only because they successfully defended themselves against an attack. They didn't actually gain anything new. However, we're seeing this war from the perspective of soldiers, and from commanders who see it that way, too (Komui). From their point of view, those scientists are a huge loss. No one will miss the akuma on either side, not even the Noah.

When Boric died Earl was crying.

They are sad because their friend died, not because professional can't help them anymore. Black Order is not the only place where scientists exist, they can take those from universities and replace those who died.

Old general died - but now we have Allen as replacement.
