Thread: Chapter 149 Discussion - It's times like these that I wish the chapters were longer.

Like, you know, if they were more than 15 pages, stuff could actually - god forbid - HAPPEN!

Anyway, this chapter was basically the Inspector screaming (for over half the chapter, yes) and Lenalee having flashbacks while Lavi and the nurse look like they want to slap someone. I guess you could say it's DBZ-inspired, since there's lots and lots of yelling. Lenalee looks really pretty in this chapter, though. ^_^

Edit: After reading the translation, I came to the conclusion that this is a cool chapter after all. Komui really is one of the most awesome characters in the series, isn't he?

I was impressed at how professionally Komui acted, actually. Very efficient.

It wasn't clear last chapter? For some reason, that cut makes me think of Inuyasha. xD

These chapters are really showing Komui's serious side; after his little scene in chapter 135, it's nice. If he dies in this arc, wouldn't it be terribly disappointing? He's so awesome - but on the other hand, Lenalee's thoughts and reflections seem to indicate that Komui's death in the next few chapters would have a great impact on her, and possibly others (since Lavi seems to be influenced by Lenalee at the moment, and Komui was also protecting Allen). I'm not really sure what to want.

Personally, I want delicious cake.

Just throwing this out there: But what if due to this Lvl4's success, the Earl starts producing them in various major population areas around the world. Not so much for the city's dooms, as much as for the unguarded populations being used as materials. Even 10 of these guys would be beyond a bad situation.

It's quite disappointing since I was trying to translate this chapter myself. Anyway, it took me half an hour to translate just the first page; so, go figure...

Level 4s don't seem that easy to obtain, though, or wouldn't one have been heard of before? The Earl's obviously been producing akuma for a very long time (a minimum of ten years, although centuries is more likely), and yet this is the first that Bookman (who seems to have that kind of obscure knowledge) has heard of one. The best way to make more level 4s is probably to keep on doing what's happening now: keep the akuma lying low and occasionally going out to grab a snack while being wary of Exorcists. An akuma on the fast track to upgrades would certainly draw the attention of the Order and be dealt with fairly quickly; the akuma would have to be able to wipe out huge populations in a very short period of time, which could mean multiple cities within hours, and it's doubtful that the Order couldn't send out an Exorcist or two (even level 3s don't pose a huge threat to half the Exorcist cast, if not most of it) before anything serious happened. Since it's the Victorian era, most of the large cities would be in Europe, wouldn't they? - and that's where the Order is. With the addition of the Ark, transportation won't be a problem either.

That's not to say that we won't be seeing any more level 4s in the future, but I don't think we'll see a surge in their populations due to intentional mass-production (perhaps some of the more murderous level 3s could be reaching their peak around this time). Anyway, for all we know, they could be as varied in their powers as level 3s were, and with some thought on the Order's side about whose abilities would be best for fighting what akuma, we might not see Mass Destruction on this scale again.

...but this is all speculation. Lenalee doesn't even have her Innocence back yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this Level 4 come to exist, not by a Level 3 powering up, but rather by pulling in a massive number of humans and akuma into a single spawning nexus that died in its birthing process? If I'm wrong, or just not in line with this subforums views as usual, then that's all there is to it; but is there not something completely different about the way this one came into being comparatively to anything we've seen before? This isn't Dragonball Z, obviously, it didn't just walk into the middle of the lab, get angry, and turn into that "totemic god" it is now.

Was that it? All the other akuma have gained levels by killing huge amounts of people, but it could be something different. Maybe it reached its kill quota with killing some people; maybe there was another reason. Still, the level 4 didn't kill that many people, did it? We saw the eye open, Johnny was grabbed (and retrieved in time for scientists to start running), and then the tentacles grabbed some people and... it evolved. I don't think there's a huge difference between the evolutions of the level 4 and the level 2 in volume 2 - except, perhaps, for the presence of akuma in that thing? Maybe the level 3 needs to kill/eat a bunch of other akuma before evolving, too (that tends to happen at higher levels). Of course, that would mean that the Earl would need to sacrifice akuma in order to create more level 4s, and thankfully, he has no means of making any more at the moment. Destroying the world won't be possible at the moment.

Maybe that was his original plan, though - another reason why having the Egg was so important.

Aahh man ! I didn't like this Chapter (Few pages, few actions). Lenalee seems to be scared of fighting, at the beginning. She cries, Leverrier shouts, Lavi is powerless.
Now she's going to fight, I would like to see Komui die, then she forces synchro and kill the level 4 by the power of her new innocence, hatred and despair.

Still, I'm wondering where the others are ? Generals, Marie, Bookman, Miranda ? Link and Allen ? All dead or dying ? ...

(Sorry, my eyes spin looking at your hypothesis about level's 4 evolution... Bad to be a frenchy ! I can't get/understand all of this)

You're not happy to see a break from this neverending action?!

The Generals and all the other Exorcists from the Lulu battle fell through the floor after the level 4's attack; Allen and Link were the only ones to be unaffected. Presumably, Allen is still recovering and trying to get up, and I guess Link is helping him... and the other Exorcists/scientists are unconscious, maybe? I'd like to see a page or two about Allen, but I don't really think it's necessary at the moment (not until after the battle, I bet). Right now, Lenalee is the important character.
