Thread: Is Hoshino trying to regain a male audience?

Recent chapters have been full of boring battles, as I'm sure many of you have noticed, and I was wondering why, after so many great chapters, Hoshino would draw these annoying long fights instead of developing the plot. And so I thought about it and came to a conclusion: maybe she wants more guys (that is, the ones who would normally be reading JUMP) to read DGM? Its ranking on the table of contents in JUMP isn't usually high (and that indicates popularity), but DGM volumes apparently sell quite well. There are clearly lots of yaoi fangirls of the series. So maybe Hoshino would rather have a male audience rather than them?

There are two things that made me think about that:

1) The fights. Little boys like fights, as shown by the Top 3, and maybe she thinks that drawing fights will attract them to this manga (hopefully, once its popularity increases(?), we can get back to plot). That's something that yaoi fangirls would probably enjoy less, too.

2) Lack of Kanda. He's never played a really big role in the manga, but it feels like Hoshino is trying to write him out of the story a little... which doesn't make a lot of sense, considering that he's the most popular character. Of course, he's loved by girls. Since volume 3, he's only appeared a few times, and his fights have been short. His Innocence is now broken and he can't fight. It's also been rumoured (see Mangahelpers) that Hoshino is planning to reveal his past this year. If she does that, it'd be way easier to get him out of the story.

And then we have Sokaro, DGM's equivalent of Zaraki (except with a far greater possibility of death, in my opinion).

So am I just reading too much into this? She did include those assistant's drawings of half-nude female characters, or Shueisha did, anyway... Well, as long as the plot takes priority at some point, I'd be happy about such a decision...

Didn't the Ark arc, also feature these kinds of fights? Also about Kanda, I think she's just thinking of a way to make him epic on his return fight. (People who are out of the battle field more or less have epic come backs) On the Sokaro thing, I think when we first saw him when he returned (with the toothy mask and his attitude) hinted of some pleasure in killing?

(And those half-naked drawings? I think they were fillers, or maybe Hoshino was just bored and decided for her assistance to go wild or something.)

If Hoshino is trying to regain a male audience she could be doing it the wrong way.Why? Because I am a male and I am feeling DGM getting more & more boring lately.
And Kanda, he really is idling around isn't he. Not that i'm a fan of him, but Hoshino should give him more air time and some action instead of doing yoga.

Yeah, the Ark arc had those fights, but that still falls under the category of "recent chapters" and I was thinking of it. I guess she could be finding a way to make Kanda epic, but he really hasn't had much of a role so far. He hasn't been away from the battlefield so much as away from the main characters, and he already had that "epic" reunion. He obviously had a role to play at the beginning, but I get the impression that Hoshino changed her mind about the story a few volumes in and decided that her other characters were more interesting. Aside from being a filler Exorcist for battles, Kanda really does very little besides antagonize Allen for comedic purposes. (I guess the "comforting Lenalee" thing could count, but I can't see that going very far unless it's to promote a certain character's jealousy for romantic purposes.)

Probably. Doesn't disprove my theory, though. =P (If the art sucks, well, remember that it wasn't Hoshino drawing them, apparently.)

Hmm, now that I thought about it, based on the recent chapters we can't have the predicting threads anymore. (good god almighty, if this subsection turns out to be like the naruto section. Me no like stupid, non sense threads...)

and I guess this part of the forums going to be dead for a couple of weeks...(because of there's nothing to talk about, given that so little information was released during the chapters.)

(I can't think of anything to say about the naked drawings...But if I were to have something to say, I would say that Lenalee would look better in the "pants" type uniform rather than the skirt. I think its because of her long legs...Inono. But that's just me)

Are these half-naked drawings of the male cast or the female cast?

Predicting threads? You mean, because of the break... Speaking of that, the double issues of JUMP are going to make this fight seem even longer. I mean, I know it has to happen, but Hoshino just introduced some awesome plot points and it would be really awesome to get back to those or else we'll go insane. :3

(All I can say is that I wonder what the assistant that drew Cross - it was one, right? - was thinking. XD That's not sexy...)

Edit: The drawings are by assistants and are of Lenalee and Miranda... and then there's some naked Cross that's... yeah...

oh wow. You may well be right then. I'll have to 'investigate'.

Cross doesn't even look as beautiful as he does in the manga. He just looks... weird...? Of course, he looks incredibly beautiful in the manga, so I'm surprised we haven't seen more Cross yaoi pop up recently (although it's the same for Komui. You'd think two handsome ADULT men, one of whom is almost certainly gay and the other who hits on anything that looks like a woman would become a more favoured pair and draw attention away from torturing the poor little underage straight boy, but...).

We lasted a month, two weeks can't hurt, even though we can't predict what's going to happen next...betting pools anyone?(Oh yeah, I remember that before the break I join ST XD)

I guess they wanted people to be turned on by the girls and then quickly be turned off by a nekkid Cross XD. (I still think that Lenalee should be in those pants, not that Miranda isn't nice looking in them. =D)
