I don't think Allen is protecting Cross. Allen thinks that Mana was a normal human, after all - he doesn't want to think of the possibility that Mana was a Noah (which is what other people seem to be trying to tell him). The reason Allen doesn't talk about it is because he doesn't want to think about it, because he will then have to accept things that he doesn't want to.

As for the Noah, maybe it's not good for humans, but it's what God wants - or maybe it IS good for humans in the long run - we don't know. And how concerned must the Order be with saving human lives if they're so willing to sacrifice them? It seems they have another motive.

Allen is going through the five stages of grief, Since he's in denial maybe he'll move on to anger? (also, I don't know why he's grieving).

anyone else have the feeling that general cross has something wicked/evil planned for allen-kun

I believe no one beside Cross knows about existence of Mana, so he is quite quick to assume and by his silence he puts the whole investigation into stalemate.

I would like to see Cross planning something evil for Allen to do, but I think it will be quite opposite... but I kinda see it to be quite wicked, if you know what I mean...

Anger, definitely. I can't see him NOT being angry at Mana if he realizes that he was a Noah all along. Allen also isn't intelligent enough (and probably won't be rational enough to think about it) to be able to realize this without telling/revealing it to people he shouldn't, so I think they'll find out eventually (unless he tells Lenalee, who is smart enough to not tell Bad People).

Yeah, anger might be the next stage. But first anger that there IS such a possibility, and then angry because of the (possible) truth.

Oh I hope Allen might be a bit rational...he needs to develop and mature a bit. And even if he isn't the smartest, he will think about it well enough....I hope.

You're thinking too hard. The reason Allen isn't talking about is because he's currently under suspicion of implication with the Noah Family. If he says, "Oh yeah, I know those characters cos I and my mysterious father figure were the ones who made them up", then that's not gonna distance him from the Noah by any stretch in the eyes of the Vatican!

...am I thinking too hard? The entire last half of 137 was Allen thinking to himself that Mana wasn't anything but a clown that adopted him, but he sounded pretty unsure. If he didn't suspect it, at least, and want to convince himself that Mana had nothing to do with the Noah, he probably would've said something about the characters and then asked what it had to do with the Noah or whatever.

...That, or he just doesn't want to talk about his past or anything else nontrivial with people he doesn't know and who suspect bad things of him.

Again, I'll state it, I think he's in denial, later moving on to anger. This chapter was him denying every fact that points to Mana = Noah.

Exactly - so maybe he'll begin to accept it in the next chapter and be angry that Mana could have betrayed him or something?
