Indeed~ She may have done predictable stuff, but none of it has been really stupid except for the end of the Ark (which was rushed). Inserting something like this would just be too random, and, unless she's been planning it, wouldn't have a reason for its existence.
That's true, the Ark-arc was drawn into length and the end was slightly abrupt...but I honestly am glad that it's over for now. It wasn't remarkably bad, anyway. Hoshino-sensei does a good job.
The fact that everything ended hapilly ever after - no, I would even say that it was 120% victory of exorcist, since one noah is down and they have new exorcist and ark, kinda dissatisfy me. Some bunch of exorcist came and pretty much kicked Earls, the main boss, ass - because no matter how you look at it, he lost in most pathetic way he could.
Please, how many exorcist did they lose before already? And for that only Boric was killed, they almost died and a new Noah is revealed. Road gets even more mysterious and Tyki's true Noah-power awakes. Compared to that only Krory and Allen get power ups (in Allen's case it hasn't helped at all).
We all know that the only significant Exorcist are Allen and Rinalee, it's just no one knows about it yet ;p
originally 13 Noah and some more exorcists but mainly 13, too. The others aren't that insignificant.
And oyu know, something like killing Allen or Rinali in such an early stadium (early for a Shounen-Jump manga at least) would be not fitting into the concepts f D.Gray-man. It's not YYH where they can be revived or so (because the plot needs them). And if Allen&Co. woudl have lost, where would this have led to?
The Order has sustained an equal loss to the Earl's side. While the Order lost something like 147 people, the Earl lost at least one (possibly two) Noah and his akuma factory. They both have limited resources, although the Earl is probably in better shape for the time being (as he still has lots of akuma warriors and eleven active Noah - compared to eight for the Exorcists, and ONLY eight). The Ark arc was basically to cut down some numbers and power up and/or injure a few more Exorcists who needed it... well, that, and set the stage for Allen's awesome evil-powers.
That still dissatisfying - someone as powerful as Earl and with such advantage pretty much failed big time here. Completely, with power to crush all of them in 10 seconds, he didn't...
Well, the only reason he failed is because he didn't expect Allen to be able to destroy his akuma-making factory. He doesn't seem to be very affected at the death of Boric (and the possible one of Jasdevi), which implies that they're not really useful. xD And they did do some damage. Anyway, it isn't really the Earl's fault that he didn't see the egg thing coming, since Cross did a pretty good job of hiding Allen's powers.
