Heh, that would be quite too positive to assume Allen is the only ace which Cross has up his sleeve - hopefully Malcolm is aware of that.
I just love those talk rooms.....
They created a whole group to find him and he wanted to escape at the end, if it wasn't for Rinali. Tiedoll and others contacted with Order and they were easy to find, they were just commanded to return with escort. Cross obviously didn't give a shit.
You know, if you don't report on your missions, it's only fair to assume he was doing something in between (I know, having sex with lot's of woman, but I don't think Malcolm knows all those details). Also the way Cross was completing his mission is quite..chaotic. It's more like the problem was solved by it's own and Cross just gave an order, I would on Malcolm position question Cross methods, since if it was so easy to acquire all that, why didn't he do it sooner.

Assuming Cross wants any aces. =P It's not like he's going against the Order and they're involved in seeing who has the upper hand... I think...
They didn't create a group to find him so much as protect him; all the other Exorcists were in groups to guard their Generals, too. It's just that with Cross, they had to find him first (in order to protect him), and then they'd bring him back to the Order to make protection easier (four Exorcists would not be enough to take on an akuma army). He probably wanted to escape because he knew he'd be yelled at. =P And if he really wanted to get away, Lenalee wouldn't have been enough to hold him back.
Cross's mission wasn't as simple as it appeared, though. He had to destroy the akuma-producing factory, but how would he manage to do that without inside help? He actually managed it perfectly, and with minimal direct damage: training someone who COULD do such a thing (Allen) for three years and building his loyalty to the Order and friends. It's doubtful that anyone who was a Noah before they met Cross would have given in. On the other hand, Allen was an easily manipulated little boy who had just lost his only guardian, and also had an anti-akuma weapon. It's also entirely possible that Cross somehow convinced the traitor to give those powers to Allen, knowing it would end in his death but also that he would have the perfect little tool to use when the time came. And it all worked out perfectly.

The way Cross acts is rather confusing so it's hard to tell where he really stands (I know, he is definitely good guy, but let me dream about complex plot twists).
...They create a group with priority to find Cross and get him to the HQ. He was the biggest troublemaker of them all...and what kind of adult is scared of being yelled at - and he doesn't seem to care now.
Indeed, he trained him how to be used by others to pay their debts and then have trauma about it his whole life overreacting every time he hears the word "money" and "Debt". Cross really just took half-ready meal and just boiled it a little.

I don't know - I think he would be fine if he was found by any other general (because later or sooner he would be). I think he would get along with Tiedoll or Ygdrisil...if not even better with other generals. Maybe if he came to order a little before, they could learn more about his abilities - I think even conservatism like Malcolm wouldn't pass on occasion to use such power against enemy.
