Default Now that one JUMP series has returned, it's time for another to break.

No D.Gray-Man from JUMP issues #40-44. According to GGpX, who got it somewhere else, they're extending Hitomi no Catoblepas to replace DGM, which is going on break because of "health reasons". Regardless of WHY, because that's not important, that's four weeks, which means a month of no DGM.

Currently, I think we're on volume 38. You know what that means - we get next week's chapter, and that's it.

If she's even thinking about it at all. I hope that after this, she stops taking these weekly breaks...

I'm surprised at how much slack Hoshino gets, especially since this is her first manga. I thought that was a privilege given only to established artists, like Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter). But if she's sick, then I guess there's no helping it...

Aside from her regular weekly breaks, she also took nearly three whole months off in the past. I'm disappointed... I love D.Gray-man, but the fact that she has loads of assistants, and the fact that each chapter only spans an average of 17 pages gives me the impression of laziness. Which I am aware may NOT be the case; she may have a weak body or something. I dunno.

Heh, I guess I'm just not looking forward to no D.Gray-man for a whole month.

Oh, and no way can HnC replace D.Gray-man. @_@ It's a decent series, but... No.

Yeah, she'd better think of a good way to continue the story. She has plenty of time for it.

    Which JUMP series returned?

I don't really mind the breaks. All things considered, I follow FMA which is luxurious in its breaks. Then again, the chapters which do come out are always worth it.

But if Cross comes back with a shotgun well worked into it...I'll be content.

@Jaimie: isn't that quite harsh. i mean, can you do 17 pages of art to hoshino's standard a week with time for writing the story too? even with assistants it must be hard.

anyway, i don't mind this break for two reasons:

hoshino needs to think about where the current elements are heading right now, as even though this whole 'allen creating a destroyer of time' thing is still cool, it' getting more and more hopeless for them. it's like the pursuit of happyness in manga form.

and two, HnC was originally slated to end this coming issue, but considering where it's at, that would be incredibly shit. so this gives another mangaka time to either get a series pumped up in popularity, or end it well.

Viraten: HxH is returning in October. The announcement is good enough, I guess.

If it's for health reasons, I guess it isn't really her fault. Didn't she break something last year, and couldn't draw or whatever? I am a bit surprised that she's been taking so many weekly breaks, although DGM is pretty popular for someone's first manga, and she's a pretty good artist, too. She's also young, so maybe JUMP doesn't want her to leave so that she can draw some amazing thing in the future when DGM is done.

As for the seventeen pages... that's normal for a chapter of a long-running Weekly Jump series. Even the most popular series aren't much longer. After all, how many pages can someone release in a week? And how much space does JUMP have, too? That's why they need another series to take its place for that month.

The quality of art in this chapter certainly implied that something was wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if things improved after this... this arc is going to end soon (next week is supposed to be the conclusion of Cross vs. Tiki, I think), and we can get to story things.

What are you talking about? Of course I can't. She is a professional artist with experience, whereas I doodle crooked stick figures in my spare time. For her to draw a sketch of Allen? No big deal, it'd take a few hours (or less?) at most. For me, it would take the entire day. The comparison doesn't really work, as you can see.

I'm sorry if you felt as if my expressing disappointment was akin to hating on Hoshino, because that wasn't my intention.

I'd like to remind you that Hoshino is not the only first time manga artist out there. Several other Jump artists rarely ever take non-holiday weeks off, and they almost always meet the standard 19-20 pages a week. (And before you brush off the extra 2-3 pages, they do make a difference. You'd be surprised at how much you can fit within those extra panels.) Hoshino gets a LOT of slack compared to other artists. But hey, like it's been mentioned several times in this thread, she may have some serious health issue. And if that's the case, I sincerely hope she is doing well and gets better soon. =)
