Kanda's Japanese right?
I remember reading one of the profiles at the end of a chapter...he's a Jap right?
And they're in Japan...perhaps we'll gain an insight more into his character and past. I remember him saying back in the first official mission that he cannot die, that there was one man he had to kill. And since they're in Japan, his homeland...
Yes, Kanda is Japanese (and his name kind of says so, too =P).
I did think that if Kanda is supposed to stay dead from this Ark mission, we'd find out about his past through someone else... and I agree, the situation is absolutely perfect, since everyone is in Japan at the moment. That's a perfect way to resolve all of Kanda's issues and leave him dead and gone and clear the way for someone new.
Nah, I'd rather have him die, taking down that man with him in an entirely new arc. Kanda should at least get that spotlight. Because he's the guy who once looked like a girl. And he's got a katana. And he's Japanese with a huge fanbase. He has too many things going for him to die now.
But I don't want Crowley to die either...I like emovamp. But then, this arc will end up as typical shounen crap. It's a lose-lose situation for the story.
Hey, we don't know if it's a man. I remember the translation was just someone... a person... *can't find it* Eh, but maybe there's some girl he left behind, like in SDK or whatever. Anyway, maybe the others will find out his story or kill that guy or whatever Kanda was going to do, or maybe they're already dead or something.
Also, Kanda *once* looked like a girl. Allen *always* looks like a girl... although at least he'll have a girlfriend by the end of the series (probably), so he gets credit for that. But Kanda is the most popular character!
...It's better if they die. Yes, we're sad, but the story ultimately benefits.
I was going to rebuke you and say that he IS a man as evidence of the first few chapters...using the age old rule of look at their chest to determine gender but he had a bandage over it...I'm calling Kanda a he because Linali did.
I don't think they'll already be dead but it would be a nice twist if Allen carried out Kanda's will for him if Kanda dies. But for that to happen, there needs to be a touching Kanda-Allen moment before his death....where Kanda isn't like 'stfu, I don't need friends.'
What?! I meant that it wasn't a man that Kanda was looking for! Kanda is one of two characters in the series whose gender absolutely cannot be called into question (the other being Allen) since we HAVE seen his chest. Bare. Multiple times. No, Kanda is definitely a guy, but is he looking for one - is that person he was talking about male, or not?
Ewww, Kanda-Allen moment? That'll never happen. I'd like to see Lavi cry over Kanda's death, though. XD No, I think it would be cool if Kanda just stayed dead and everyone's like "Wow. He's not coming back?" and leave that ambiguous until people stop caring. That also works with the story - all this time, Allen has been telling Lenalee that Kanda and Krory are going to be okay and everyone will go home, and he's going to be wrong.
You know I didn't mean a homosexual moment. And by touching, I mean, as touching as Kanda can be. Sort of like
'Screw you Allen, I'm going to be fine.'
Or a Battle Royale kind of thing with Mimuira and Shuuya. Except Kanda will be frowning instead of smiling.
I think the translation I read said 'there is a man I must kill'. So I'm going to be pompous and assume its a man.
Yeah, well, we have some yaoi fangirls who won't see it that way. xD Even "touching" can mean "Allen and Kanda saying they don't hate each other" which, to them, means "expressing love".
Although the way you said it, that's great. I love that. xD
Japanese usually uses a generic word, like "person". It's REALLY hard to tell gender unless someone uses a pronoun (and even then, it's hard - Hoshino-sensei, for example, has been confusing the hell out of everyone for two years that way) or actually says "he/she" (unfortunately, these words are also used to describe boyfriend/girlfriend, so they are not common). It probably just means person.
You know, you just got me curious to what D Gray Man fanfiction was like. How I should've known better! The first page was filled with yaoi, noahcest, lolicon, yuri, Harry Potter crossovers, and even a Death Note crossover.
I don't know much about the Japanese. Honestly, they don't interest me as a culture particularly, I just like their manga and anime. Every time, there's some sort of reference to Japanese culture in a manga or anime (frequently Gintama does this), I just don't care enough to read it. But I still find Gintama funny.
Oh shut up, I wrote one of those crossovers. And so far, I don't think I've even mentioned one of the main HP characters. Most of them I don't go near, though. Some are badly written, but the vast majority are crack pairings mostly involving bad yaoi ones. Seriously. They're not good.
Gintama is really funny, that's why. I just learn what I can... I *am* interested by Japanese culture, but that's why I'm studying East Asian culture, I guess.
