It's not that I hate crossovers...it's more like I hate anything that's mainstream in fanfiction. And Harry Potter is very mainstream. Because mainstream tends to make shitty fanfiction. But now I'm curious....you're a fanfic writer? So what are your stories like? I have an account too, so if you're interested, pm me.
Man, I just want an arc on Kanda. He has too much potential to just die now. I hate to say it, but Crowley on the other hand...well, we've seen enough of his backstory. So there's nothing more to discover about him as it were.
Mainstream stuff can be good. I've read fanfiction for years, in a very popular fandom, and I can say that the only indicator you have of whether a story will be shitty or not is the degree of OOCness (well, and the spelling, but...). If a story will be OOC, it will be crap. You can have excellently written mainstream stuff, though. (Yes, I write. My stories tend to overuse the same words and are overloaded with canon pairing romance, but - well, see for yourself. xD)
Kanda does have lots of potential, but for all we know, Hoshino-sensei could be receiving pressure to kill him off or change the story that way - or she just doesn't like him all that much anymore. Since Kanda's story can easily be explained by someone else (unlike, say - Allen or Lenalee), and Krory's is known... they're easy to kill. ^_^;;
I tend to just avoid mainstream. Because there's a good chance it's shitty. And even if it isn't, it's bland, typical and just plain uninteresting. I prefer quirky stories that haven't been overdone. I won't lie and say I haven't written anything mainstream, because I have. But they are in the minority. (Uh, how exactly am I supposed to check your stories out? Unless you have the same username...)
Kanda needs to live. And then die in his own arc dedicated to him. Because he was once a girly looking man. And he has a katana. That's gotta count for something. And his hair is pristine even though he travels rugged. The list is endless.
Yeah, I guess that's true. Since I'll read mainstream stuff that IS bland and typical, I don't really have the problem of getting bored by it. On the other hand, even if the plot *has* been done before, it can still be good - it's all in how it's written. ^^ (Look for the one that looks like it was written by me. xD Okay, or you could just find the one with the pairing in the description.)
Allen took over Kanda's role - girly, sword, and second-best in popularity. Although I agree that Kanda's hair is just amazing... he goes through so much and it's still beautiful. Even Allen doesn't have that.
Yeah, I've always wondered how Kanda has such nice hair. But then again, the orients always have nicer hair than everyone else. So sleek and shiny. It's genetics.
How it's written, well, goes without saying. Nobody wants to read a crock of shit spelt incorrectly, full of textspeak, and making no sense whatsoever, unless it's somehow written in very well as part of the story. But its normally done due to intense laziness/ineptitude. (So I take it you're not going to guide me to your fanfics? Because, I'm not going to read every Allen x Rinari fic. In fact, I don't think I'll read a single DGM fanfic.)
Indeed - Anita even said Lenalee had such pretty hair, too. Pity it got all burned off. And Komui's hair is kind of nice, too.
Bad spelling will make even the most interesting fic awful. What I meant is that a generic basic plot (for example - boy meets girl in highschool, boy and girl hate each other, boy and girl are forced to hang out, boy and girl fall in love) can become really interesting and readable depending on the way it's told. It can be boring, or it can be fun. (Come on, there's only one HP crossover that says the pairing in the summary. Anyway, if you're not going to read any, why bother with mine? =P)
Wow. I didn't think to put two and two together and figure out that you wrote a Harry Potter crossover with D Gray Man. Its late is my excuse. I shall read it now. It will be the first fanfic I've read this year.
I suppose if you like generic. In fanfiction, most of it is already done for you, since the characters already have personalities and the world has at least been partially explained. So I would've thought it'd be even easier to write a fanfic than an original piece. But I was wrong.
We're slowly going off topic...need more Kanda-talk.
Oh, I thought I said I wrote one of those crossovers. =P Yay. I got someone to read a fanfic who doesn't normally read them. (Be prepared for no plot. It's good that you don't read them so you can give me constructive criticism, right? That's so rare on that site.)
Are you kidding?! Most authours don't even care about the original personality - proof being anything where Allen is some kind of gay whore (which ignores two points: a) this is the guy who blushes when a girl he likes hugs him? and b) yeah, on that, he likes girls). Pretty much any yaoi fanfic is guilty of this unless it's explained really well (so Komui, easy, Lavi, possibly if you don't pretend he doesn't like girls, Kanda, you'd need to write it well, Allen, not a chance).
Kanda-talk? There's a character with that last name in Kekkaishi; she's so unlike the DGM Kanda that it's really, really funny. But anyway - if he dies, we might not be able to find out more about Mugen, since it looks cool. On the other hand, that leaves a more equal number of Exorcists vs. Noah, assuming Road and Tiki live a while longer (if Crowley is dead, one of them can be knocked off and we'd have twelve vs. ten, which can add to the Allen-is-a-Noah theory by giving him to the other side).
Yeah, so I read it and gave a review. No prizes for guessing what my username is now. I'm not good at giving constructive criticism, what with barely reading any fanfiction and I think I sounded pretty harsh.
Still, D Gray Man fanfiction cannot possibly sink to the level that Naruto is. Or even worse, One Piece fanfiction. Despite it being much less exploited, One Piece fanfiction fails on an epic level.
Allen is a noah? Naw. He's a screwed up hybrid of good and evil. As all typical main shounen characters are. Naruto-9tails, Ichigo-Hichigo...soon Allen will start losing it to his Akuma side and end up skull faced like his mentor.
And Kanda...does he fight with the sheath of his sword as well? Like Afro Samurai? Or is it just the blade?
Why, thank you. :3 It didn't sound harsh - well, a little, but that's exactly what I asked for. I do have issues with all of that. >_> And if I can improve, that's good. At least there isn't anything that I can't really fix at this point in the future story... everyone's characters are kind of boring, so...
I don't think Allen is quite like that. ^^;; The akuma seem to be like mindless soldiers of the Noah, and Allen seems to have a bigger role. The Noah thing is just a theory that comes from the fact that it is way too likely that Mana was the traitor Noah (and as we only know one person related to Mana...).
I think Kanda did use the sheath of his sword during the Boric fight, but I don't know if it has to do with Innocence, or has the powers that the sword does.
