.......well, he earned the tiniest of respect in my opinion. I had only pity him, but now that might get interesting with him being an exorcist. Still, he's only a former sailor, former burden and hasn't any experience in combat and fighting. Maybe his Innocence will tell him what to do...
Chaoji is a wussy sailor, too - "I'm dead too! Let me stay on the boat with everyone and die!". I can't see how that becomes the guy who tries to punch a Noah in the stomach, but whatever... if he can become Lala v.2 and throw pieces of stone, that's fine by me.
hm...either he really wanted to go, ceasing to exist with his comrades, or...he was just scared of the cruel reality outside of the ship.....
But the fact is he *is* becoming an exorcist...as long as Tyki doesn't get him first. As exorcist he *will* have to be able to do SOMETHING. And if he gets something like Miranda or Hevlaska he should die instead (as harsh as it sounds). But the situation requires a fighting-type...

Chaoji will probably have a fighting thing. I think he's supposed to have super strength (like Lala), which is definitely offensive.
So maybe he really cared for Anita and the rest of the crew....?

Of course he cared for everyone, but he said he didn't want to go to Japan because he was scared. I understand that he'd miss his friends and Anita, but no one else in the series has ever picked death over going on in life without friends (with the possible exception of Leo, no akuma-victim is aware of akuma, and Rinari was being forced to do much worse in the Order). That's just... dumb.
Maybe Chaoji will start singing too. xD

Eh...I think everyone, including the umbrella and Tyki, has suffered way too much to be tortured like that as well...^^;;
I think Hoshino-sensei is just developing his character now. xD He didn't do very much. But why do Masao and Kie have to look so much like yakuza?!
