Why is he an anti-hero? BECAUSE HE'S EVIL. Seriously. The guy gambles, cheats at that, blackmails, threatens his friends... and if that wasn't enough, he seems to have taken back everything about not hurting humans. He ENJOYED hurting Jasdevi and seems to be having fun killing Tiki, too. In addition to that, he doesn't really seem to care about how any of his friends are doing in battle, except Rinari. He didn't kill that level 3 because he wanted to save Bak or anything, either. Nice.
Oh, and to top it all off his excuse for wanting to live is... enjoying life. He couldn't have said to protect his friends? Help the akuma? Seriously. He's like Tiki v.2.
So yeah, Allen isn't really that nice of a guy after all. He needs snuggles.

In summary, Allen has a very corrupted personality and isn't very nice at all except when Rinari is concerned. Therefore he's an anti-hero, since he doesn't fit the traditional model of a hero. (Besides, the antagonists here are clearly human, and he still wants to kill them.)
But it makes sense why he would want to kill them. Last time, he didn't want to kill Road, and it got him in trouble. I think he's gotten over that feeling that he doesn't want to kill humans and whatnot. Besides, it's either kill the Noahs or let the world be destroyed. It's only natural that Allen would choose to kill the Noahs. I don't think that makes him an anti-hero. I have to say that he's changed, though. He used to be much nicer and more innocent. Then again, I guess being an exorcist would do that to you.
I suppose - but they're still human. He ENJOYED hurting Jasdevi, remember? (Although that was for Rinari, so...) He also seems to be enjoying his fight with Tiki to some extent - I think he'd be doing things a little differently if it was for the good of humanity. Anyway, he'd have probably sacrificed himself to kill Road, since he had plenty of opportunities. Not killing her last time didn't really get him in trouble, either; she was leaving. If she'd died, they would be dying in the Ark right now with no hope of escaping.
And I still think his personality is fairly dark. Of course, there's always this - and that kind of says it all, too.
If being an Exorcist made one less innocent, why is Rinari still so nice? She's just incredibly traumatized (at least as much as Allen - no one came at her with the intent to kill, and he wasn't kidnapped at a young age). Even Rabi is pretty decent. Allen's been there the least amount of time and he's the worst of them all, except maybe Kanda who's just a jackass.
Edit: Annnnnnd this is all shown back in volume 9. Does a NICE PERSON attack other humans - on the side of the Order - (yes, he did this) just to go into a room and kill something? Ummm. No. And it doesn't really look like he cared about Bak or Fou, either. He just wanted to kill the akuma.
Tyki finally snapped heheeh
"Finally"? He seemed pretty calm for most of the series... am I the only one who wants to see Rabi go insane and start destroying everything with his hammer? That'd be fun. Random, but fun.
He wouldn't need to go insane. Don't you remember when Rabi was first introduced?
Allen needs anger management.
It'd be funnier if he was insane. Anyway, he had Allen's help that time.
And speaking of that, Allen isn't the only one who needs anger management, but he's among them. It's like his life revolves around killing things and Rinari.
I don't think Allen is THAT bad. I don't think he has insane killing tendencies like everyone's describing. I think I'd want to kill the Noahs, too.... He has this hatred for the Earl. Imagining that humans would actually join him must piss him off.
