@CsuTiBea: Why not just select the entire thing and go select-->modifiy-->border.

I prefer stroking selections. Is much easier. :P

98abaile's method also works, but I like to use solid borders more. :P
Oh yeah, it was select-contract to resize selections. But it's greyed out whenever you select the entire canvas. >.<

    Patterns:
1)file-new: 6x6 px, set bg contents to transparent, ok
    2)zoom to 1600x
    3)use a 1 px pencil
    4)make this pattern:

    5)select-select all
    6)edit-define pattern
7)rename to w/e ie: diagonal lines
go back to w/e you were working on
    9)new layer
10)edit-fill: set to use pattern and choose the one we just made
11)set layer blending to soft light

You can also use this for grids:

    ADDITION TO RULES:
before asking your question, please do a little research.
if you have a question such as "how to do so and so" thats fine.
but if you have a question such as "what is a slice tool" or "how do you use blah blah" ... why dont you just try it out and see for yourselves?

if you still dont get how to use it, or have trouble with it, then go ahead and ask :]

    tools:

when you see a little arrow in the bottom right hand side of the box, click and hold down for more tools (ie.: look at the cutting tools)

the cutting tools:[use shift and/or alt for other effects]

    after done selecting,
    [ctrl] + [c] = copy
go to new layer/window and [ctrl] + [v] = paste
if you want to delete the selection you just made press [delete] or [ctrl] + [x]

    the crop tool:

(cuts off all that is not inside the selection)

    text/fonts:

use these to give cool effects to your font

for more fonts, look around on google -> click
i also recomend searching google for brushes. [i dont remember where i got my brushes, but i will post the site if i remember]
