    Default Publishing your own manga

Hello all. I'm a really big anime fan and have started to read different mangas. As part of a school project I have, I'm supposed to come up with a business idea and explain how and why I believe it could be successful. After thinking for awhile, I thought that maybe there could be a way for people to publish their own manga and comics, and even sell them online automatically. For the entire production from start to finish including a few copies, it could be done for about $500. Could I get peoples thoughts on this? Do you think it could work and that there would be people interested? Thanks.

Well, most people would rather get them for free xD

But seriously, the guys who have good webcomics and such, they publish them for free and then live off the merchandise (if they got enough readers..)

I really donīt know if you could make such a system successful, you should wait for more feedback!

    Hey...

Funny, I just published the first issue of my manga-influenced comic, stryders, on amazon's kindle service. Whole process cost literally nothing not including software and pc used to draw the thing, which i use for other stuff anyway. You can get a free preview at magicalattack.com.
yeah, everybody is used to getting everything for free, so its off to a slow start even with some advertising and reviews in the works. If you wanted to do it as a business plan, probably you would look at the current american comic print market - which is dying - or print manga industry - which is dying - and see how they could survive on the digital medium, which all the ereaders are supposed to be a part of.
Probably, if you got a group of creators to publish a big thing every month, it would have enough value to get people to actually pay for it. I'm talking jump size, like dozens of authors putting in 20-30 page stories every week or on alternating weeks. but if its just a single story coming out a week or every month, its gonna be tough, cause people expect so much content on the internet that no one person can meet that need - hence the manga spam sites like onemanga and tazmo, which could not exist if they had to pay for their content, even with their $40k USD per month ad revenues.
But as long as we have people like you who are interested in comics as a business, i think it'll turn out ok.

hey, I'm kinda interested in this topic, since I'm honestly planning to be a mangaka in the future. Could anybody fill me up with some infos here? Thanks in advance.
Oh yeah, regarding this topic, I think I should agree with the other members' idea, that people nowadays really wants everything for free! But I also think that for those people who, like me, wants to become a mangaka, well, I think it's advisable that they ( I mean we) must make a manga that would make the people/readers turn their heads and think twice if they really are not gonna buy our manga. What I mean to say is, that, we must make our manga original, and totally unique and that this manga should make people say, "I don't want to just e-read this manga, I want to have the copy of the original!!!" Well, that's what I really think. What do you guys say?

^ well that's usually the case. in this day and age where we've seen stories and genres recycled and rehashed over and over, it becomes rather difficult to produce a genuinely compelling original story. I'm planning to be a manga-ka eventually myself, and it's hard to find a topic that doesn't sound like it's from another story. Getting into the right niche is what can usually propel interest and sales with your art and story.......Bah, I myself am still seeking answers.....

"You have other hearts trapped within you as well, dont you?"
"You're that guy from last time! What are you talking about?!"
    "The other Hearts within you."
    "Hearts trapped within me....?"

Aha! I knew there are people who were planning to be mangakas! minna, God bless us all!!! I think I should admit to what heartlessfang-san had said...sigh! ... sadly say say it's true but we mustn't give up! After all, we shouldn't put limits to our imaginations. Well, I'm sure there are a whole lots of stories out there waiting for us to tell. And oya! I also heard people some successful mangakas say that they talk to their characters and fell with them. In other words, manga writers just write down what the characters had "told" them. I think that's very interesting. I often do that myself, that when I draw, I "talk" to the characters, and I eventually know why they're sad or happy or what... sigh.... it's really fun! Tanoshi desu ne!

The first thing you should think of when publishing your own work/product is IP (Intellectual Property) Rights. This is to ensure that the work/product is yours and you have a say or nay in anything related to your work/product. Just a suggestion.
