RK fanfic, help needed, Japanese speakers listen...
I'm currently in the process of writing a few fanfics for Rurouni Kenshin. I've got a fair number of ideas that I think can turn out great, but among other thing I am restricted by my lack of knowledge of the Japanese launguage, history, culture et al.
For starters, I'm having trouble coming up with proper Japanese names for my characters.
1)Can someone point me to some sight where I can get a list of suitable Meiji era names?
2)More importantly, I need a good Japanese name that has the meaning of either 'great strength' or 'strong heart'. Any suggestions?

1, http://www.meijiyasuda.co.jp/profile...ng/year_women/ This is what I found...sadly only the last year of Meiji period is presented...
2, Female? Male? Unisex name...?

A male name. Like I said, it should have the meaning of either 'great strength' or 'strong heart'.
Here are the links to my current stories. Please check them out if you're interested in Rurouni Kenshin.

I apologize for my late response, I was thinking hard about the matter.
The name „Dairiki” means literally „Great strength”. A poet, Konno Dairiki, had this name in the past. „Strong Heart”could be for example „Kyoushin”. I believe a buddhist priest had this name in the past.
As for name suggestion, I would recommend „Tsuyoshi” the most. Depending on how it is written, could mean either „Strong Samurai” or „Strong Will”. This name was also popular in the Meiji period, Saitou Hajime’s second son was a Tsuyoshi for instance.
And thank you, I will take a look.

Thanks a lot. And does the word 'Kyouta' have any meaning or is it just nonsense? I put it together by adding 'kyou'(which, according to a Japanese thesaurus I looked up, means 'strength') and 'ta'(from 'Shinta', which possible means 'great'). I just thought it had a nice ring to it.

You are welcome. It is not a word, but a name. And yes, you are right about that, "Kyou" means strenght and "Ta" means great, if written in the right way. However, I must point out that this name doesn't sound like one from the Meiji period. It sounds like one from recent years.

It also sounds like what you would name your dog, to be fairly honest.

Here's the fic I wanted the name for. I decided to stick with 'Kyouta' in the end. It sounded better than 'Dairiki' to me. And 'Kyoushin' sounded too similar to 'Kenshin'. Thanks for your assistance, though.

Csuti : Kyouta is not bad at all. And if you still think that, think of the kids who has Shouta (slang for attraction to young boys), Futa (shemale) or Yuri (loanword referring to lesbian content) as their names.
Witcher : You are welcome.

Here are three more fics.
The Legend of the Fireflies Based on the anime filler episode of the same name.
Naruto: The way it's likely to end A parody fic in which I vent my infamous frustration about how much Kishimoto favours a certain Uchiha.
Power and Purpose A Sasuke drabble.
