Thread: My Art (Critique me, please?)

Well, what the hell. I'll post up some of my crap and let me people tear it apart for me. Don't worry, I'm not a daisy, so you have no fear of crushing my little petals. So, tell me what you really think

Here are just some of my recent things I've posted up. I haven't done a full-shaded picture in a while, so you'll have to deal with flat colors, hah xp

As I make new art, I'll start throwing them on this thread, so keep an eye out for 'em!

My Main character, Shirei. This is the first time I've ever tried such a complex pose (I got it off a reference of a yoga picture or something) so I know it's got a lot of problems in the anatomy department. So critique away!

One of my favorite characters, Shayden. I have trouble drawing beaks and claws, so my boyfriend helped me with this...but, I think I still have some major flaws on it, so let me know!

3rd part of a comission I got from someone of his little kangaroo rat character. I don't draw actual animals very often, so this was extremely hard for me to draw. But, it came out cutely, even if it looks nothing like a kangaroo rat xD

My smexy older man, Dartagnan (rp char of mine) Drawing guns is not one of my strong points, nor is poses that aren't front and center. So having him slightly tilted with one side closer then the other was defiantly a new challenge for me. Plus, humans aren't my strong-point...ew, noses xD

But as for your first charecter, Shirei. Gotta admit thats a really unique pose you got her in ^^ But you should work more on seperating the different parts of the body. Like her left foot, it kinda melts into the leg and its hard too see whats up and down.

Also, try to bring out more that she's wearing some clothes. It sticks too much to her body, so it looks like her shirt etc are a part of her, instead of something shes wearing. You could make them more loose at the bottom so you can see the gravity is kicking in.

As for Shayden, you allready pointed out you had some problems with the claws/beak, so I dont got much there..Though your drawings are interesting to see O_o

I actually like it alot. I think its by far the best of the ones you posted here^

The kangaroo rat is really cute XD Great job, I dont have anything bad to say about it ^^

Just keep on postin stuff and you'll get better^ But keep the style, I kinda like it =P

I appreciate you taking your time to respond and give me some great critique. I love it when someone actually gives me something to go off of. You get tired of the one-liner good and bad comments when that's all you ever get.

I'll defiantly keep your suggestions about making the clothing more loose, and truthfully, I'm still learning how to draw feet in diff positions, so I'm not surprised mine look so bad in the shirei pic.

I guess you could say my characters are interesting, haha. I get comments all the time about my character's designs more then I get comments about the actual artistic merit of the picture. Oh well, I guess it's better then a one-line, eh?

I'm pretty happy with how the ragdoll one looks as well, specially since I drew the whole thing completely with my tablet on the computer (something I've only done once or twice before) so it's an example to me that I'm actually starting to improve my tablet drawing skills, haha.

Glad to hear that Its true its easier to give a one liner, then actually looking at the art and make some comments on how to improve. But im sad to say that very few people here comments eachother on their art, so I always try to comment as often as possible^

I'll be sure to look at your thread from time to time, to see if there's any update^

Buts theres alot of other great artists here in ST, viper, Csuti, and SharinganDevil are really great. (They all got their own thread in this section) I bet they can give you some great tips etc if you ask nicely :3

Luckily, I found your deviantart account. What I find from there is some proportion problems. The eyes and head and arms are sometimes awkward. The character designs are good and the photoshop work is excellent. I love the shading and clean coloring. But as I said, you need some more training in traditional art to fix proportion problems. Also, your faces look a little flat and you don't spend enough time on hands or feet.

I hope you don't think I was too mean Feel free to critique any of my artwork as well.

yeah, unfortunately the site that the links I posted are on is having some trouble with their servers, but hopefully that'll all be worked out soon.

Proportions and anatomy, specially hands and feet, are defiantly painful for me to draw, so I appreciate the truthful comments.

^It's really not an easy thing for anybody. I still can't them fully right unless I'm working from a pic.

^^It's really hard to draw hands... I sometimes end up drawing mittens or hide them completely...

^^ I used to try and hide them all the time when was younger, then realized that I'd never get any better at them if I never draw them *shrugs*
