Gaia Grand Tour: work in progress
uhmm... ive been haveing a cool idea for a MMO RPG and was hoping for peoples opinions on some things.
I would like to have an action packed fully real time battle system. Meaning a GTA style game with a Complete anime makover to accomidate all the stuff you would find in most cleshay anime. Complete with 12 jobs and then a division between light and dark charecters marked by a system known as Angel over Devil or A/D. Level limits are 200.
Races: Human male and female(basic humans).
Demon: Wolf,insect,fish,dragon,bird(human looking individuals usually having bright colored hair and animal apendages)
Aura: Basicly humans with full metal apenages and hair. They are human esc with the ability to shift and change thier bodies to an extent.
Each race would have certain traits and skills allowing for lots of interesting fights.
players can level in 3 different ways. Guild: The creation,sale and distribution of items and goods both rare and non yielding experience after most creations.
Battle/Job: the arts of fighting and different styles of defence and offence, yeilding experience from use of combate skills/trait activation. and finally Seal Magic: The form of energy sent from the gods in the astral plane used for everything in game from attacks, transportation, skills,yielding experience after usage ect...
Ive also come up with a system for players to use to create situations that are fun. The system is call the Player Based Mission System. Its the system in game that you use to obtain experience points based on situations or action from other players that can yeild better experience then level grinding. An example would be that players can choose to become a certain type of player slayer and when they fufill certain criteria they would obtain a special experience bonus. Other PBM would include treausure hunting, and all types of activities to create fun experiences.
Ive also written a story to go along with the game itself that will feature actual ingame NPC's that will be programmed to act simalerly to thier charecters in the show. They will be equiped with the techniques and styles they have so people can relate and come up with fun scenarios. The game will feature many things others already do, simply because these are things that make a great game. Mine offers a new style of fighting, the revamping of the equipment system, and several things most games will always have like funny emotes and big explosions!
I hope somebody actually reads this cause i would really like the feedback!

this is actually quite good. once you get this idea finalized you should start making the game.
it's an interesting concept, but generally creating an mmo would require far more thought then you have given this, don't take this the wrong way, but there's a lot of work to be done if you want even an initial concept document.
So far, I see MMO, but then, why is this MMO fun? What makes it different and unique? How does the action packed fully real time battle system work in a world with potentially thousands of people and lag all around? How does the system opperate exactly? Do you use a control pad, keyboard are there icons you press to use a skill? How would you combine a GTA esque game into an MMO like this? Why shouldn't I just play an already existing GTA-clone game?
I could probably come up with hundreds of questions, and to even think about something like this seriously as a concept document (not even near a developed or final document) you'd need to answer every single one.
For example, the main crit I have with your idea is the level system, higher levels complicate things, things that don't need to be complicated. how does balancing work out? How is EXP, skills etc gained?
Again, it's an interesting concept, but you really haven't told me much apart from the skin of the game, I want to know what lies deeper.

well to go deeper i guess id like to pick apart the actual game screen.
id like to help illustrate the actual game play and game screen.
First and formost what most games that are online dont have is a radar.
Id like this to show certain things in the environment that your charecter can see such as, buildings, animals and such things. The drawback is however you wont be able to see things on the rader that are far away at a low level. However if you put levels into skills like sencing you will be able to see things farther away and sertain types of attacks approching you.
Ill have hp and energy bars obviously but this also entails another difference in the game. In most games obvious energy translates into attacks. In my game energy is a very general things and to user certain attacks you will need 2 things. Elemental Affinity: which is the amount of skill you have in a certain element, and Elemtal charged energy: this is the energy that is essentially another form of your life force that must be changed into a type of energy to use techniques, seal magic ect....
With my game i compaired it to GTA only because its a general game that lots of people know about and have experienced. I didnt actually mean to say that its a dilliberat knock off^^ lol. Anyways other than me implimenting a kinda big size charecter creation system and Player based missions id like to add another kinda strange idea. The ability to build and own buildings. This will give players different options to use for a base of operations and can expand into bigger things. Like turning a house into a church, dojo, shop ect... and putting this together to form a city with specific NPC buildings and pulling together to thrive.
This will allow players to have big battles in castles they built and are trying to over throw themselves. This will also give players the ability to have all sorts of anime based crap they would love to try like in bleach when they raided Seireitei! or somthing.
Im not an original individual exactly. The only difference in my game and other games is mine isnt meant to show players what they have never seen exactly. Its only meant to give them somthing i think they have wanted for a long time.
This is a lil more information and i have lots more but i just wanna know if your still interested and all.
You should try to pack in as many obscure title references as you can with the equips and other stuff.
Good good, this is the stuff I also wanted to hear, sounds interesting and your first idea (the radar thing) - I'm pretty sure guild wars has something like that, although I do like where you're going with it in detail, but are you sure it doesn't make the game to easy if everything is on the radar, so essentially are you looking at the actual screen or mostly just the radar?. You don't have to be truly original, just interesting and/or innovative, compare your game to various other MMOs on the market and learn things from them, what do you like about them, what don't you like about them and how would you improve or put an interesting twist on an already existing feature.

As for the GTA comment, I know what you mean, it's just generally a really bad idea to directly compare your games this and that to this games this and that if you know what I mean. What's there telling me this is a thought out idea instead of a "hey, this is GTA WITH this" idea. Elaborate in your own words, try not to tell people it's like this game, if they figure that out while reading it, kudos to them.
As for the Energy thing: hmm, sounds good from a story aspect point of view, from a game play aspect it seems a little over-complicated, skimming over it I'm confused to how you actually use skills. Care to elaborate or make it simpler?
In any case, I'm definitely interested, I love games design (doing a course on it now) so hearing other people's ideas who aren't in my class is actually very refreshing. Opposed to most of my class who do really boring things, RTS, FPS, Goth games, Nintendo games (onry) and the like.
Well just to start off id like to talk about the energy system. The reason i like it the way it is is basicly because that most people only think of energy as this substance that comes out of nowhere. I like my idea beacuse you take the base MP that you have (you can expand apon it with Skillups, this is a choice players will make naturally but ill talk about that later) you can use to use basic skills and so forth. Other skills however have certain requirments that will force you to need to charge in a battle. This will mean it wont be a constant button mash and that players will have to use some sorts of stratagy.
I also have the job system set up so that players will have several choices when they level up so that creating a truly unique fighter/guildsman/ect will be a very fun part of the game.
First and foremost, as we all know fighting yields experience as do some other tasks in the game. When you accumulate enough points they level your charecter up. Its this point where i think some games fail because they dont allow enough options.
My game will allow your charecter to choose between upgrading health, energy limit, Job skills, battle skills, field skills, guild skills and buying traits.
I want to include lots of things in traits and skills that arent job related that will alllow players to create an interesting fighter by limiting the number of outside skills/traits a player can have.
If one player has wall bounce they could jump from wall to wall and scale things as another player has floor rebound that allows them to recover from an attack that launches them to the ground to reduce the damage.
Then to expand beyond the plain old ordinary choose a job system i want to allow players another goal. This is the Limiter System. It allows players to choose another sort of sets of techniques that draw on basic energy based on what type of limiter they choose. The types are based on the Zodiac for Hero charecters: Cancer,Aries, Pieces ect... now for the Dark charecters i choosen the Black Zodiac. I dirived this idea from the movie Thirteen ghosts in the idea that players choose from fallen spirits who died and surrenderd thier powerful bodies to the dark side: The jackel, the hammer ect...
These are all things that ive liked in other games and that ive seen in anime.
These are the things no one really talks about, but everyone is aware of.
Also lol i know i refrenced my game in comparison to other games and now that i look at it, just to clear it up, my game is like a KH and GTA crossover with anime and crazyness meets a big beautiful world full of vehicles and life and madness. I apologize for not realizing that this kinda pegs my game but, i dont really have a nack for giving good visualisation.
Well for my game being a big beatem up kinda MMORPG with allota anime cleshay stuff, id like to see what people would like to have implemented. Id love direct feedback. Ive alread decided that i want there to be big vehicles and player built towns. Other then that i dont really have many ideas outside of the fighting. If anyone has any ideas for anything ouside of the races and classes i suppose, id love to hear it!
