Thread: Contests???

Well we all know about the siggie and avatar contest. So I was wondering if it would be worth any time at all do do either an art contest(drawings) or a writing(short story) contest? I just want to know if there is anyone interested in so and ,if their is enough willing to participate, I would consider judging one-not by myself, probably three judges.

We've got a lot of artists here, so I think an Art contest would be the easiest one to do.

Hmm... looks like we need some good guidelines so that people don't end up comparing one person's photoshop work with another person's charcoal... heh.

Let's see how the votes turn out first to find out what sort of contest it's going to be, after that we'll start doing write ups for the rules.

A contest would be cool, but it should be set like a brief so it isn't as simple as "my drawing is better then yours", like the ultimate goal is to create a mood using certain object/colors/etc, that way any media is viable and digital vs analogue media isn't really an issue so much, meh it's late so my brain is scrambled, but I would also like to see a creative writing contest as much as a drawing one

I THINK I have an idea here, thanks to what Elcura just said.

How about, we vote on ONE particular subject. Like an object, a mood, a place or something. And then we ask each person participating to draw their VISION of that. Then we compare it and see which version is the most appealing.

If we do it like this, we could compare lots of different styles (with exceptions like photoshopped work which would make it hard for normal artistic work done in pencil or acrylics or something).

So say the object was a vase with flowers in it.

The people on the board can draw or paint the vase however they like and the same with the flowers, even using different flowers, but it would still require style to make it win.

oh, I've seen them before, ponju useto/stillhas weekly drawing contest for it's members and it was fairly popular.

Essentially members would first vote on various themes and the results would lead to the contested themes for the next few weeks. Throughout the week people can submit their works. The following week would go into voting, meanwhile the next theme would have started.

In a nutshell
-contested weekly themes
-1 week to submit
-1 week to vote
-during voting week, the next submission would begin

I'm not sure if I'm making sense or not, but that was a rather neat system... cept I think time restraints, give or take, depends on the members, weekly or biweekly

That sounds like a GREAT idea, the only issue is that we have a limited amount of people who currently use this place, so we'd need to extend the deadline so that they can all attempt to compete. Otherwise, that looks perfect to me.

you can use my rules from my Sig/Avatar thread, those worked really well...

id love to see a grafitti contest, see who has skill in that area... true art imho
