Thread: Nataku's

Hey.

Not sure how people wanted to do this new art thread thing, but I figured it's okay for people to created one thread for themselves, moreso if they plan on continually posting work. That way, it's a bit more organized than to have 500 different artworks in one thread that has 42 pages.

Erm, well to start off, I can't draw very well anything past anime. Not really great at anime either, but it's more because I like anime that I draw it, not because I'm a big fan of art in general, to be honest.
That said, my focus is purely different styles of anime. No realism, no background or scenery drawings, just because i am no good at them.
Mostly, I just doodle, sketch on random pieces of paper I find laying around. When it comes to coloring, most of the time it's done in Photoshop.
I don't have fancy photoshop skills, or fancy skills in designing, so most of the time, it's pretty simple shading and stuff, since I'm not capable to manipulating different renderings and filters (it's all so complicated really).
Programs I use are Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, and maybe Oekaki, though that's not much of a drawing tool to me.
I also have a blog and a site that has some artwork, but that would be the last thing I would want to share here :P I can imagine the ridicule already lol...

Anyways, maybe just to start off, I recently scanned two sketches. Was wondering if they were worth CGing. If enough people find enough things wrong with the sketches, it would be better to just discard them, I suppose.

And you say you can't draw anime very well?!
You could become a mangaka with this like of art you know?Those drawings of yours are really are good. Though on the second picture, I dunno why but her stomache seems a little big,or just sticking out,though its probably just my glasses or how shes standing with one hip sticking out.This is like manga-worthy art.I could see you as a mangaka if you could show some more sketches like these.And if you cant do backgroudns and other things,you can always practice at those untill they get as good as the characters you draw

That is some gorgeous art there, nat.
I especially like how you've done the hands on the first one, though the wrist is a little fat.

The wrists don't look fat,I think its the way the clothing is drawn along with some of the clothing creases.On the second one it seems that the hips are a little too big,but that might be your preferance,all in all it really is beautiful art.

You have a very cute style, I like it. Your main problem is anatomy. I would advise you to have a few photographs of (real) people while you're drawing so that you can see what the size/length ratio of different parts of the body need to be. The legs (thighs specifically) on the first one are not in proportion to the girl, they need to be a bit longer. The hands also seem a bit petite, but I think that's kind-of cute. :3 The anatomy in the second picture is much better, but still a little akward with how short her torso is. I guess she's leaning forward? But with her head thrown-back like that, she can't also be leaning forward... that whole pose is a little weird with her left leg being cutesy and pidgeon-toed but then the rest of her pose and expression being strong/smug looking.
I like the way you show volume with the clothing creases and hatching, that is very nicely done.

But yeah, you obviously have quite a bit of skill, just work on anatomy and your art will really be spectacular!

I like both. Though I admit that the first one is cuter (by my standards.) They are drawings of the same character, right?

What? Did you actually say that? You're awesome. I don't know if you've had any form of professional training, or what, but that is some serious talent there. Please, DO post your website/gallery, or at least post more selections from it here.

My only complaint (that isn't covered by Shendolyn's post) would be that, especially in the second picture, the depth of the various parts of the uniform are less defined than they could be. Specifically, the bowtie thingie on the outfit appears to be flush with the rest of outfit, which isn't actually possible given the pose. On a lesser note, there are some slight inconsistancies in the light source vs. the shading, since different parts of your body will cast shadows on each other.

Very nice! I can only advise you to do is shade the socks down in the direction of the legs, as the shading will look nicer that way, and to fix the left leg in the first picture, as the location of the hip seems to be a bit vague. Great job on the sketches!

I really think that with the skill that you have, you could do backgrounds too, you just don't know how to apply yourself to doing it yet. You just have to find the way to see them. The first step of drawing is percieving, as I hear so often from my mom. I think if you really concentrate on what the background should look like in your mind, you could do it. You have a lot of talent drawing those characters, so rather than assume that's all you can do, you should see how you can apply it to the rest of the spectrum.

Also, yes. Each person who wants to showcase their work can make their own thread, as long as they have multiple items to present (unless it's a story, but if it's a story make it reasonably long.)
