Digital_Eon: yeah, I got you. Irene's face is what I'd call elflike - gaunt, angular, it fits perfectly the image I have in my mind. Raphaela also had pointy ears, but Lady I actually looks creepy. If a Japanese would want to what D&D/high fantasy elves were supposed to look like, Irene's a prime example.
Anyway, tonight I watched the last 6 episodes for the first time. I have only one thing to say:
- SPOILER ALERT - RANT INCOMING -
If anyone is interested, it is almost obvious where they start to deviate from the manga. The fights become much more drawn (the one with Rigaldo, in particular), we get plot situations that ought to have been resolved, and we get what is usually the bane of fighting series: flashbacks. The last fight was so choke-full of them it was unnatural. If I wanted flashbacks and thoughts on every blow, I'd go watch Naruto. The scenes from the Theresa flashback were used more in the last two episodes than in the previous 24, for crying out loud. Also, some of the character designs - and Claymore attracted me with good characters first and foremost - were butchered. The anime sissified Priscilla at least twice - the first time by making her deathly-scared of Claire-Theresa and the second time by making defeatable. For crying out loud, in the manga she tears Easley a new one by barely flexing; she's supposed to be the uber-strong antagonist villainess, and that's what we get someone who almost-awakened Clare beats with only a few flashbacks. Effen great - but then again, since the fight between the two deteriorated into a parody of a mecha-slash-samurai fight (the flights, the laser-like projectiles, the parallel running/flying), what can one expect? Oh, but Priscilla comes off lightly, compared to what some of the others get. Flora, for example gets to suffer the most insipid death of them all, literally doing nothing while several of the other squad captains die and she knows she's next - which would have been demeaning to begin with, but she's supposed to be fast. Jean, sweet Jean, gets to be dragged like a plot zombie for several episodes, more on that later. And then there's the half-baked ending. On one hand, the only way I can understand Priscilla defeated is to bring some sense of closure. But noooo, pretty-boy comes in, snags her and goes "Sorry, girlies, c ya later!" The magnificent seven never assembles (iirc the anime simply loses a few characters who appear in the cathedral? while Clare fights Rigaldo), we never learn exactly why the 24 were "the decoys" (One and Two, actually) that Miria says they are, we don't learn what makes Rafaela special, and so on...
Oh, and instead of decent resolutions of at least the plot arc (never mind the actual overarching plot), we get Raki's moralizing on why Clare shouldn't, you see, kill Priscilla. Now, I don't subscribe to the recent badass-worship fad, and love to see a hero who's slightly idealistic and not full of it, but Raki's barely bearable, hopelessly clueless, and so full of it it makes me laugh and scream at the same time. 70% of the story gives motivations and hints on the Priscilla/Clare conflict - the flashback, the Irene training, Clare's fights with the awakened Ophelia and Riful... and all that is wasted for some more Clare-Raki closure. The same closure, by the way, gave Clare's character a complete about-turn - from a person fiercely loyal to her friends and promises to someone who basically waves off the debts she has to everyone who helped her so far. I can't say how much I was annoyed by Raki in the last 6 episodes - and Jean, one of the most sympathetic characters, almost misses her sublime moment to save him? Ugh. It's an ending almost on par with that of the Gantz anime. Only the Gantz anime didn't butcher the main character like that: in Gantz Kurono at least started an somewhat annoying, completely non-heroic b.....d - Clare didn't. But hey, who cares about Priscilla? It's not like she's the one the plot practically revolves around. Raki says she's actually a nice person, so that settles it. Forget how many lives she wrecked - or downright ended. Get a life, Clare. Who cares about Priscilla? Oh, you. Well, ..... to be you then.
- SPOILER END - HAVE A NICE DAY -
Overall an enjoyable series, but you're better off reading the manga, at least after you've seen the first 20-ish episodes. The good stuff is mostly over.

Anybody else got annoyed by the explanation of why there is only women claymore? Seriously, the mangaka must be delusional for thinking that women are more strong-minded than men.

And also Haji: the mangaka basicly said this in too... Men = more testosterone = more agression. Yoki half feeds on agression, thus men turn into Yoki faster. Watch Animal Planet or something, and the explanation should be far more clearer once you get the idea behind "mating rituals," just because we're human doesn't me that we don't do the same things (just maybe in a diffrent way).

It's a fact women are more resilient against hardship and also are more thoughtful in general, and I am a man if you are wondering... I thus thought the mangaka explanation was logical.

Oh so true shautieh. I'm also male, and found it logical. I mean I've even proven it myself sometimes. Hit the ego just right, and almost any guy will go for a fight, most women instead will yell your head off, or just slap you once and let it lay (or both, but not really get into a fight).

You don't know women very well. Men are very much more in-your-face confrontational, but women are more passive aggressive and will slander and shit on you behind your back. Also, in case you didn't notice, yelling + slapping is just as aggressive.
