    The biggest problem with TV is the fact that TV just shows moving images with sound. No smell, no physical touch, no comestible taste. Thus it can never communicate and convey true experience and knowledge.
    If such a thing is possible then it would be the ultimate window.

    Thus, kids should experience real world lessons in genuine by involvement. I don't think that real life can be replaced by TV. I don't think experience can be satisfied by a mere window.

    Anyway, sex is overrated. It is one one of the greater pleasures in life; however, it (should be) is overshadowed by kinship among peers and family, and contribution and achievement one gives to the world.

    We have a name for stuff with sights, smells, sounds and touch;
    REAL LIFE.
    I haven't watched TV in months.

    I think I'm a relatively successful person so far. At the very least, I'm happy with my life. And I never watched much TV as a kid (next to none), and only slightly more now. Most of my "TV" watching comes from anime. Its funny, though, the effect that even this little exposure has on me...

    Being a romance-comedy kinda guy as far as anime's are concerned, I've noticed that I tend to prefer my relationships in a strangely typical anime style. Things that I want or expect can be tied back to certain series. It's strange, and despite being aware of it, I really cant change it (not that I would). Even the slightest amount of exposure shapes my innermost desires.

    (nice new sig btw penta)

    Same here, Aikido. I look at a relationship/character in anime and I think "wow, I really want that kind of relationship" or "that kind of guy" and I wonder why those things don't really exist. (Though it's more manga for me; I don't watch much TV.)

    Television can be entertaining with comedy and all, but it's never a replacement for life. I mean, you want the fictional life... which is always better than the real one (unless you're on Law and Order, and you're NOT part of the police...=P).

    I haven't watched TV for a while either. Although when I get the chance to go home, I always watch some programs on university channels. They are full college courses and seminars (and some conferences) right in your living room. They aren't very entertaining, but it's pure education and enlightenment. Afer an hour or so of those I then channel surf for another hour. However, in my apartment near school, I have no TV.

    A few years ago was different. I had always spent hours in front of the tube watching cartoons and becoming immature (reverse affect of education and life).

    OK here goes.. i do not watch much television but my kids do watch TV alot.. we live in an area where its hard to go outside with me and my 2 young boys (ages4 and 1) so we have no choice we do our outside things when my husband comes home in the evening so please dont think im a bad mom.. but i am going to tell you honestly that although my kids watch alot of TV during the day william started talking way before he should have and he impressed his pediatricion so much she wants us to take him to have him tested to see if he is smarter than he should be.. we dont know about chris yet hes to young.. but i think some televison helps kids .. we watch Dora, Blues Clues, and lazy town.. thoese are our top three i think they get a good message across to little kids.. BTW as you can probably already tell my kids did not inherat there brains from me i am a dumb ass..i repeat a DUMB ASS but my husband has always been above average so he sux..

    Lovely_nightmare: in response, I think that there is great merit behind the research that points to kids under 2 not watching TV. When I was a kid, (like, williams age), I spent a lot of time with my mom reading. I personally find that, when I was in 4th grade, 6th grade, I could tell which kids read often and which kids didnt.

    btw, has anyone heard the Speak n' Spell (like the devil) skit by Dane Cook? just reminds me of that.

    Don't get me wrong my kids don't just sit and stare at the TV.. but it is always on while they play with there toys and things .. we already put william on Hooked on phonics in hopes that he will be very well into reading by the time he starts preK in September.. and we read together its just usualy at night before bed..because that is my #1 rule no TV for at least an hour before bed because it gets william excited and he bounces off the walls.. but dont get me wrong we read and do other thingsbut TV is just a major part of the day time because i clean and cook and do laundry (im a housewife for now) so them sitting watching TV playing with there megablocks keeps them busy so there not in the way of me cleaning and such..... i just thought of something.. you know non of my kids watched tv before they were 8 mos old anyway ..

    I kinda want my relationships to be more like how I read in books...and I have watched A LOT of tv. A LOT.

    But I'd still rather something like P&P then anything i've seen on tv anime or other.
