The best TV show is the Magic School Bus. I learned everything I needed to know about science for YEARS from that show, and I still watch it now. You can't say that is bad for kids.

I don't think that's necessarily a bad idea. I learned from Sesame Street - not a lot, because I was reading by the time I was three (actual books) but it's not the worst show out there.

As for the sex thing... I've been exposed to the knowledge of sex when young (thank you school; I don't remember a time when I DIDN'T know how babies were made), but it hasn't made me any more inclined to do so. Not all people have. Media isn't the only thing influencing younger people to have sex. People want to act older than they are - children's dress-up games, for example - and drinking and all at a young age is because they think it's "cool", and also because they're rebelling in a way. I know I'm allowed to drink alcohol at home. I don't want to. I have been exposed to a large amount of media (I mean, I live in a city) and yet I feel no more inclined to do those things than I would to, say, kill someone or shoplift or whatever. I'm not the only one. We can't just blame media for everything.

Bah, that has been happening for centries. 40 years ago it was acceptable to get married at 16.

I would say youre the exception rather than the rule. Our society is not only more promiscuous, it is also much more free with sexuality than ever before. I think we can chalk a lot of this up to the media.

A lot of people I know are exceptions, too. We can't just blame the media - there are other factors, too. If parents, for example, raise their child in a certain way or not at all, couldn't that contribute to it? Or peer pressure? There are a lot of factors and we have to recognize that media, while an obvious one, isn't the only one.

yeah. I'm not suggesting that media is the single largest influence of a child. It cant even begin to compare with parentage.

t.v. lol. when i was a kid. i didnt no what a what a computer was. and watched no tv because we had no channels. so all we did all day was play futbol. i skipped 3rd grade cause it was too easy. ppl were dumb as shit. they didnt no how to multiply properly, and divide properly and no one played chess :'(. idiots they were. now i dunt watch tv much. but i still watch some show when i am REALLY BORED.

Yeah, a lot of people that I know and myself who have grown up in the age of TV do not think are act upon what you call the social norm Aikido...(I would also like to thank you for starting the more serious topic's ... I missed these)

I've also known about babies since before i can remeber and i'm still holding back I think it's more to do with oyur own personality than anything else
It's accepted in my family to be open about sex and maturing My mom gave me a book on sex ed when i was 13 AS A JOKE , My dad rooms with a gay guy..who doesn't know my dad knows...
The educating of kids is never bad be through t.v or otherwise so i like it

When I was saying that, I was talking about a national trend. To speak about social cultures in the US is not easy to do. Different areas of the country have different outlooks. So when I said my previous point, I think I used the word "more." In other words, I would bet that the sexual culture of the area in which you live is more promiscuous now than it was in the past. Though this may not be true everywhere, I would say it holds true as a trend across the US. Do you disagree?

@aurora: no, im not commenting on that as a bd thing. Just noting the influence I believe that the media has. Personally, I'm all for this trend. >.>

I actually like baby genius or what ever... An adult can actually learn things from that show.

I actally had a book on gender when i was very small. I don't really know how old I was , but I would read it all the time...

But even though I knew how everything worked as a child. I still had very vast imagtary world I played in. And reality really didn't have a big part in my life... I had my pretend world.

@Aikido- I don't really think my area is more promiscuous then it ever was. Their may be fewer marrages from causing a girl to be pregnet... but that is because girls have more choices then they did before.
