edit: let me add that if you were serious about the "we all saw this coming" BEFORE the study results came out, then i have to question the open/bias aspects of your position (not to mention everything else that comes with that; future trust issues, etc...) but i'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're only purpose for the topic title was to attract people (you had my curiosity bubbling)
no, I'm not saying anything. The title was to draw attention. And I posted this because I think it sparks interesting stories and views. In that, I think I was successful.

Personally, I dont believe that other people praying for you can have any effect. I believe that, like Aurora said, mind over matter in terms of personal prayer (aka, the belief that praying will make you better rather than the praying itself) is viable, but I am personally less convinced. I think a lot of the stories here are coincidence and luck. Then again, many of you know that I do believe in God, albeit in a non-traditional way.

I would post the "I love egg" thing, but I value my masculinity more than that.

So you mean to say cancer doesn't make you suffer? So it doesn't hurt at all? So why are people so whiny about it?

Pray for prevention of disease. + "God helps those who help themselves." = prayers answered, because for fuck's sake, if you help yourself not get cancer by not smoking and shit, well then God just answered your prayer.

Believing in God doesn't mean you have a free ride. The Christian life is full of hardships that tests one's faith.

As opposed to the non believers life full of hardships that tests one's self? Pot kettle black etc.

I agree. I also think you can only learn so much from a single study, which is why it's better to perform many.

In this case, the other thing that comes to my mind is that it wasn't the close friends and family of the patient praying. I think that having someone who knows you personally take the time to pray for you would likely be more beneficial than a complete stranger. I would find this more comforting, at any rate. The thought of having someone I didn't know care about me is wonderful, but I think it would carry more weight if it was someone I knew.

I'm also not religious, officially, so for me having someone do something other than praying for me, such as writing me letters and visiting me, would be equally valued (I imagine if it was a friend or a family member, they would do this anyway). But I would also appreciate prayer, because it would mean they were thinking of me and wishing me well.

AK, I think he was refering more to the path of a Christian life, rather than specifically life.

And yes, kao, it is "the thought that counts," etc. I just dont think it counts for making my triple bypass surgery any more successful.
