I've only been hooked an anime and manga for two or four years now.
But I've been around technology since I was a little kid, while the deep south may not seem like a place where technology runs rampant, your forgetting such key elements as booster rockets and other key components in the American space race buisness, Exxon Mobile and other oil companies pushing for technological advancement to get more oil and make stuff out of said oil, New Orleans, the largest trading center in the continental U.S., and other such key elements. [New york is a larger city, not port]
And my parents are engineers, which helps since engineers always embrace things that make their Jobs easier [If you EVER tell an engineer that computers don't help, they'll bitch slap you around like a minkey. Praise the lord for computer modeling of stress loads and the like]
i think my first anime is Goggle V...the original form of Power Rangers and I watched them in VHS (i was around 6 or 7 yrs old)...as for anime like Doraemon, Candy Candy, Sailor Moon... I watched them on TV when I was around 9. My mom...she still can't use technology very well, but she's learning...
