it's as weird if it's an american or a japanese....
the only (BIG) difference is that americans generally suck at cosplaying, so they look even weirder XD

depends if its good coplay or not. there are some american cosplayers that look good and just like the character. then its fine.
i kinda dont like coplaying too much, since most of the time a lot of cosplayer's costumes are so crappy and cheaply made. if someone wants to cosplay, i expect them to go all out looking good, plus wearing identical good quality material clothing to the chracter they are cosplaying.
also they should at least look ok or even good. it cant be like a fat lady cosplaying as kaiba from yugi oh, since that is so far away from what the character is, and taints my memory of it the character.

most of the time american cosplayers suck like the one's doing naruto or yugioh (no offense) and i really dont get why people cosplay cuz just cuz it looks good on an anime character doesnt necessairly mean it will look good on you

Well, cosplaying's a way to show one's love for an anime. It's not necessarily about trying to be that character, but rather to pay tribute to that character or fandom for that anime. It's like trying to make your own lil' Halloween costuem ^-^ It's hard work to make your own clothes, especially if you're going by something (like the clothes of an anime character). I personally applaud all cosplayers everywhere for their love in their anime. Sure, some may be a bit weird, but that's what are otakus, right?! The word has a nicer meaning here, but in Japan, it's like calling someone an "anime nerd," I believe. XD
