Thread: Emo's: Just what exactly are they? And why and when has Hipo-hop become so popular?

Why do people dislike emos so much? I mean some of un on this forum even use it in a derogatory sense. Are emos generally emotionless people? You see I don't know what an emo is because I've back in my home country trinidad. Living in Trinidad is truly blissful, yet it's like living under a rock. So anyway, since my last visit to North American culture, this word, no rather this group known as an emo has arisen, and gino. So can anyone please explain? And why does everyone listen to Hip Hop? Personally, I don't find it as satisfying as rock or classical music. Music that actually takes talent to play.

They aren't 'emotionless' they are overly emotional, easily depressed, and have horrendous priorities.

And the majority of them are North American anyway, so it's not surprising you don't have that much contact with them. Consider this a blessing.

People who over exaggerate conflicts that have no effect on their lives deserve to be the victims of any natural disaster that will deprive them of food, shelter or stability of basic necessities.

e.g. "Oh great, your girlfriend left you, how hard your life must be. You have it so much harder than that kid in uganda who hasn't eaten in 5 days and whose mother has malaria and his father died of AIDS."

OMFG!!!! I have come to the horrible realization that my younder brother may in fact be a victim of thought reform at the hands of these overemphasizing fools!! Does anyone know what I can do to stop him from ultimately becoming an emo?

Now for the next question. When and why has hip-hop become so popular? I go to a catholic school and about 75%+ of the population listens to that disgrace of art? And with it comes the stereotype that if you're a black you'll have to listen to Hip - hop, and if you don't you'll be ridiculed.

Zero, I thought you were from Canada? Anyway, ditto to what CN said, emo's are drowning in their own misery, and won't shut up about it. Think of people that dress like a mixture of disco and 80's punk and goth and spoiled white boy, and then give him the emotional stability of a teenage girl going through PMS(no offense ladies, but this is the most accurate description I can give) and just was dumped and had her whole family die in a car wreck while she was driving, and you will have an impression of what an emo is like.

Personally, I hate rap and hip-hop. I prefer rock, country, oldies, some bluegrass and folk. Hip-hop just seems like soul music that somewhere around the lines started sucking. And rap just seems like rhyming, or trying to rhyme, with music in the background. It is grating on the nerves to hear filth like that, that has no roots in actual music, like rock does in jazz, but just came about, it seems, by a few idiots with nothing better to do than trying to make better ryhmes than each other, with sounds in the background.

Educate him. If a man falls prey to a stupid trend, find another more intelligent trend, and bring him into that. There are thousands of subcultures around the world to be a part of. Most are always happy to have new members.

Most emo's had, at one point, the potential to be great writers, poets and other such forms of expression, the only thing that failed them was their subject matter.

It's hard to explain this without taking a side or appearing to people that you take a side. You can make claims like 'My step-father and step-brother and step-sister are all black and I love them dearly and bear them no ill will due to race' which they are and I truly do, but in the end this stereotype is too strong.

Frankly my brother is a big fan of rap with some point and complexity, and there are some songs that I really like, but this stupid stereotype will always prevail. Nothing to be done about it.

How to stop someone from becoming an emo....well remember most emo's are "straight edge" as in they don't drink or anything (well most of them smoke cigarrets) so get him plastered.....thats the best thing you could do....

You could always just beat the crap out of him and then show him how much worse off other people have it, worked when one of my little brothers started going emo. There's nothing like a good fight to teach a guy a lesson in my opinion, guys tend to communicate well once they have had a good scuffle and are tired.

also pantera hurts emo's more than sunlight so make him listening to any good metal or death metal band, I also suggest classics like ACDC or Kiss. you could also make him fat because there is no fat emo GUY (now emo girls are a different story).

Cold is too kind. I'm sorry. Murder is the only thing that will solve the problem for sure.
