I know that! But at the moment here(Where I am) it's not very common. We're pretty much last to get any new entertainment and if it does become wide-scale I can see people trying to squeeze some money out of it. Look at the Batman comics. I'm sure that they were cool but the vast majority of things based on them suck.
Thats pretty much with everything now a days. Cherish it.

meh MTV sucks, muchmusic FTW
"Grapes and grapes!"
I'm surprised. That was actually a decent article. It makes me happy to see manga becoming more and more mainstream. Now I can tell people that I was normal before everyone else knew what normal was. Heh.
I basically fit the bill for the typical female reader that they described. I was never really into the typical American Superhero comic. I read them occasionally, but they just didn't hold my interest. This wasn't the case for one of my best friends, who is also a girl and has an insane collection of American comic books in addition to her manga collection, but I found them to be sort of dry...and I don't like muscled men in tight clothing. They just don't look cool to me.
I don't think that the shonen-ai and yaoi part of it was too overdone. According to the statistics I've seen, around 60% of manga readership in North America is female. And guess what a lot of us like to read? That's right, shoujo and shonen-ai. I know I do, despite knowing how incredibly girly it must be. Well, not all shoujo is romance, so I don't feel too embarrassed about it. But the shonen-ai? I buy my manga at a local comic book shop, and I'm on a first name basis with some of the guys who work there. I feel kind of bad for them and how clueless they are when I take a shonen-ai manga up to the counter and they say "yeah, this has been selling really well. I wonder what it's about?" Poor guys. I'm not going to be the one to tell them, that's for sure.
You are now my hero for the duration of my time on this forum. Looks like I'm easy to please, doesn't it? I had to stop myself from using that word the other night in the Naruto section. I'm not even sure what possessed me to want to use it in the first place, but I spent so long trying to figure out how else to say it...I won't next time. It's a wonderful word, and should be worshipped. Rescind. Ah, that felt good.Originally Posted by Cold-NiTe

Let me first say,
i hate mtv, it's not giving good influences to those who watch because regardless of advisories, underaged people are going to watch, also what happened to the music? It's all gone......(looks in the distance trying to find good music, the gateway to the soul)
Anyways back on topic- The article kind of gave a false focus on the Anime/Manga culture. Yaoi isn't everything and isn't as popular as they protray it to be. Never mind their horrible summaries of two VERY good manga. They just focused on yaoi and it made me irritant, if you're going to advertise and inform people about the style do it correctly! Give the whole story and not the smallest part. But i guess in some ways they attacked the stigma that all comics/cartoons are for kids. Some are VERY ADULT.... ahem you all know what i'm talking about. And also it just turned into a new electronics ad also. I mean even in MTV standards (if there are any) isn't that just a bit TOO much effort. True everyone has that want to conform.
But i personally believe that if you don't allow yourself to be lead, biased and influenced (after a certain age bracket i admit) At least for a while you'll keep your mind.
